Becker Vs Busse?

Not terribly well.

Back in the 80s, I had to evaluate a design. Actually, several designs.

Ridiculous ... but, sometimes, that's your government.

I forgot what they called those backpack projects. SADAM maybe. I had heard about them years ago. You seem to have one hell of a job, not sure I would want it, but I am glad someone does it.

The FBM is an amazing knife. Huge as all get out, and thick as hell, but I want one.

If you are going to do something like that, get the MOAB. For everything that BUSSE is, that one is an engineering feat that really makes it the better BUSSE creation. It is not at all clumbsy as it's overall size would let you think. :)

Let's play nice, please. This thread has proceeded pretty well so far, despite some early moderation concerns.

I have both. I use both. Very different knives at very different price points, often with different users in mind.
So much depends on what you want to do with the knives, and the particular models you're addressing.
With that in mind, a general "Becker v. Busse" thread is ONLY going to result in generalities.

thrillbilly asked recently about the BATAC v. the Ritter/Becker Perseverance. That I can do.
Becker v. Busse? Not so much without writing a book chapter. Maybe a book.

...the only point of spending more money is for the pure enjoyment of knives. You don't NEED to buy a Busse or anything more pricey, but if you get some enjoyment out of them and will get some USE out of them, then I say go for it...

I think that right there sums it up as best as I have ever heard it. And honestly, are we not here for that very reason? The ENJOYMENT of knives? We are knife nuts, we love knives. Don't get me wrong, I am loyal to Ethan, just as I am sure many are loyal to Jerry, but at the end of the day that loyalty doesn't demand that I speak ill of something else, especially when that something else is something that, if we look beyond the price, many if not all of us would enjoy.

My name is Derek, and I like knives.

Exactly, Derek.

They're both solid knife lines. I had a lot of Busses and sold many. It was just part of cleaning out stuff that I didn't really use enough to even enjoy.
At the same time, I also let go of some Beckers I thought I'd never sell. Bladite got one of his oldest 4's from me. Moose picked up a early edition BRK. I'm glad they went to appreciative homes.

Put it this way... I would not feel undergunned with an appropriately sized Becker or Busse knife. Anywhere.
My favorite smaller bushcraft knife is becoming the 16, and I expect it'll be full tilt when I finally get a flat-ground version.
My favorite chopper is usually the 9. It just speaks to me. My favorite 7" blade though? No contest. Swamp Rat Ratweiler (the original version). Love that knife.

Im gonna say Busse and Becker are my 2 top favorite knife makers. Condor and fallkniven are next. But they are all good for their respective pricepoints.

To all me fellow becker lovers; if you have a busse, i'd love to hear how they perform in side by side comparison
Edge retention, ease of sharpening, general usability
I know that Beckers are a MUCH better value for a pure user, but I'm considering investing in a piece of INFI, and you guys seem to be pretty much on my page with what you demand from your knives

Please point me to the posts that answer these questions

Well, alright, I'm game.

Edge retention is pretty good. Not all Busses are in INFI, but the ones that are seem to hold up quite well, even in situations I'd consder abusive.

Ease of sharpening. Well, the 1095 wins that one hands-down.

General useability? That's been addressed. Try reading before posting.

most excellent that this has been a civil thread for so long. hoping to see it continue that way :)

As every mod on the forum is well aware, I try to keep it civil. Right up until I'm given a reason not to. When that happens, head for the bunkers.

So far, it hasn't happened. That's a good thing.

nah. as any nepalese girl knows, the fastest way to a man's heart is up under the rib cage - so : BK4 Machax :) sharpen that swedge, make it a warror model.

if you're good you can pop that heart right out with a wrist flip

Yep, you're right, after going back to try to correct my grievous oversite, I concede - 2 posts out of over 100 mention one each of the OP's questions. So sorry to have offended you.

Not to mention the main point of my post was to comment on the trade, but hey, that's OK- gotta take 'em where you find them, huh?

And here I'd heard what a friendly place y'all were running over here.

The funny thing is, it is a friendly site. You just need to leave your attitide behind to get there.
