Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

lolz, thanks for the laughs, I'm so tired at the office right now, after doing the Miami half marathon this morning...as for the bathroom pic, the friend this knife is going to wanted a pic - rather, she demanded - and since the bathroom actually has good lightning and I was getting ready to jump in, pic got snapped. What you think of the lil buggers? finished drilling them yesterday and got like 4 more designs drawn out, gonna be tuning out these mini-skels out of an aeb-l bar.

Very nice daizee! One day the stars will align and I will have one of your knives.

Jeremy

Thanks, fellas. I'm happy to be keeping this one.

Azobe is the best guess on the wood. It is naturally waxy, but I've finished it with furniture wax. It has this subtle flame-like look to it.

Coming to grips with the King:

I'm a little surprised, TommyTheWho being one of the early proponents of stainless hardware, that these came with black screws. But they do match the figure in the Rosewood.
Does anybody know if he uses Tung Oil Finish or actual Tung Oil to finish the scales? I'm thinking it's the real (Rockler's) stuff but would love to know for sure.
As you can see, I need to trim 'em back a hair to blend the liners, and am eager to make a good match when I'm done.

Trimmed the scales down to blend the liners.
Abrasive wheel to thin liners is ready for pickup Friday.
3/16 pivot barrels and tung oil to match finish are on the way.
Should make some good progress this weekend.

I'm usually not a fan of wood handles, but those look real nice! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Tommy the Who does em beautifully.
And his final finish is kinda grippy.
These are Rosewood to match a particular handle that I already have.

I did that as a prototype to prepare for the wooden ones.
Mostly because I ran out of liner material.
But also, I've tested out lower profile shaping on some of my tweener scales and been happy with the outcome, so I thought I'd try it here.
I hope I can make it functional and attractive. Otherwise it was an expensive little experiment.

Lookin good, TJ. That must be a monster in the hand now!
