Beckerhead "Spartan" Fitness Challenge GAW Round 2 is Live!

Dang, that is tight. Do you foam roll?

It's also because I have eeuge pectorals......OK, not really. Foam roll? Is that some sort of euphemism? JK....no, I don't. Don't take the time to stretch or take care of myself much either....but I'm working on it. Hard enough to squeeze in some exercise most days.

myb: +2 = 45.5
bsp: +2 = 43.5

myb: +3= 48.5 - feet are still a bit blistery so I did a 40min yoga video
bsp: +1.5 = 45 - pushups and situps. those few days off and being sick has killed my energy, on the mend! (altho I still look like I got some kinda funky disease)

Nice work, GSOM! Keep up the good work.

Thanks! On a side note, I finally did a little research into taking Kali (Filipino Martial Arts) and it turns out there's a place less than a mile from me; the best part is that the instructor studied with Dan Inosanto and was classmates with the late Brandon Lee. His youngest goes to school with my youngest, and I've seen him around....but I had no idea. Hopefully starting the week after next. This is the "Guy" (Guy Chase, that is), and this is the kind of stuff I'll (hopefully) be learning:

That's awesome!

28.65 BSP to date.
19.89 MYB to date.

Yesterday: 17 minute kettlebell/ body weight metcon and accessory work + deload powerlifts (OHP, squats, bench press, and deadlifts), plus some basic yoga and stretches post workout.
Today AM: the usual BJJ class (calisthenics, drills, sparring).

L = 400 for 2 BSP
M = 180 = 1.8 BSP
MYB = 48 minutes = 4 MYB

32.45 BSP to date.
23.89 MYB to date.

Shot about 50 arrows this afternoon then went skating for an hour or so. Worked up quite a sweat.
MYB: 26.6+4=30.6
Completed the first day of week 4 column 3 in the 100 push-ups challenge. Actually made it to the max at the end, unlike the last time I did week 4.

Same thing this afternoon, only I shot about 60 arrows and then went skating for an hour. What a difference between tonight, at nearly 50° and last Tuesday, at 20° with a windchill of about -5°......tonight was packed. Last week I practically had the rink to myself.

MYB: 4+30.6=34.6

Lol. Stretching is important. I like foam rolling, although it hurts, but it helps you from being less sore the next day. I hear ya on having time to workout each day.

I'll be honest, I didn't watch the whole video, but that sounds super cool. I used to do karate in high school and it was a lot of fun, and very good for me. I miss martial arts so much!

TBH, I haven't watched the whole thing myself. This will be my first foray into the martial arts.....and I will admit to having no small amount of trepidation about submitting my (nearly) 53 year old self to that sort of thing. Better late than pregnant never, I guess. It will be interesting, for sure...there are some very young people in the class (12-15?) and some older ones as well - though I think I might end up being the old man of the group. Still looking forward to expanding my horizons.

Hour and a half of yoga Sunday, P90X chest and back yesterday, and an hour and a half of focus mitt work today. Keeping busy!

Love doing martial arts. I'd be considerably less happy right now if it weren't for the Krav training I'm doing. We have several people training that are at least 50 years old. There's one fellow who I think is in his 70's. A couple of the instructors suggested I try out for the instructor training, but, unfortunately, it falls on one of the two weekends this spring that I'm scheduled to be out of town. Next year, I guess.

On an unrelated note, I saw that "better late than pregnant" thing the other day too. Wife and I got a good laugh out of it.

Lol. Stretching is important.

It is! to day I'm just going to stretch. Still recovering, and the stint on treadmill I did yesterday killed my foot and did some damage. :thumbdn:

I studied with a guy for 3 years. The style he taught was a mix of a few different things. He used to be an instructor for special forces teams. In his words the style was 'functional removal of physical threats' (politically correct) lol or 'how to kill fast' (not politically correct). It was interesting. I wish I could of kept up with it, just no time with a young family.

Shoulders and arms today. Shoulders, biceps, triceps. Good stuff. About time to switch up the workouts to avoid plateauing.

1600m in the pool (where else?) tonight. Sposedta be push-up night, but I barely made it through the swim.

MYB: 4+34.6=38.6

MYB 31.5 +1+3 = 35.5

Started running this week! I'm so excited. Only did 1 mile a couple of days ago and 1.75 miles tonight and then walked another 1.5 miles. My hips feel okay so far, but I am taking it easy on purpose just to be careful. I have not been getting enough sleep and it's killing me at work. Been drinking caffiene as a result. Gotta knock that off.

myb: +3.5 = 52
bsp: +4 = 49 - leg day!

myb: +5 = 57 - an hour of yoga :thumbup:
bsp: 49

Nice on the running Cap! I miss my treadmill :( I need some major blisters to heal on my feet before I can hop back on. I may get antsy and just tape em up lol. I feel like taking the time to listen to my body is almost anti- Spartan. I normally just power through everything, guess this hippy yoga I've been doing is a good thing :D

Yoga is good stuff. It seems to squeeze lots of bad stuff out of the body. I also like plyo for when I can't run. Helps build up my joints and explosive power.
