Beckerhead "Spartan" Fitness Challenge GAW Round 2 is Live!

Cap: I'd take both PT advice and chiropractic advice with a large grain of salt. Both of them have a vested interest in keeping you coming back.

Agreed. Some chiropractors are pretty good, but there's a lot that don't really know what they're doing. Part of the problem is that the education isn't really consistent from one to another. Check out the list of chiropractic credentials and you'll see what I mean. There are dozens of different ones, and several of them require only relatively minimal education, and virtually no anatomical background or knowledge, let alone medical knowledge. I'm lucky in that my wife is a D.O., who has done quite a bit of osteopathic manipulation, and I've given her a lot of practice with sports injuries. If you can find a D.O. who specializes in OMT (osteopathic manipulative technique), you might consider trying it out in place of a chiropractor. They'll have gotten the same education as an M.D., a chiropractor, and a massage therapist, all rolled into one.

Went for a 4 mile loaded hike yesterday - and I am a bit sore today. Conditions were not really treacherous, per se - but they were tricky. Made me realize I should get some MicroSpikes. Took a couple diggers, but I'm happy I went. Had the pack loaded to about 40 lbs. with all the winter gear and a few knives (just a few ;)). Took about 3.5 hours to do the loop. I'm claiming double MYB points for the time and effort.

8+47.6=55.6 MYB.

Went to the pool yesterday and did some back relaxing yoga....didn't end up swimming, alas - ran out of time. 45 min. of yoga certainly eased some of the self inflicted abuse from Monday, though.
MYB: 3+55.6=58.6

Monday, Chest and Back (counted up and it's a little over 5 BSP), Wednesday shoulders and arms for 6 BSP. Tuesday 1.5 hours of krav and abs, for a little over 3 MYB and 3 BSP. At 87 BSP, and 79 MYB TTD.

36.01 BSP to date.
32.89 MYB to date.

OHP, squats, and a kettlebell metcon. Been a crap couple of weeks for training, I need to get back on it.

200 L = 2 BSP
30 M = 0.3 BSP
30 H = 0.6 BSP

12 minutes yoga/ stretching = 1 MYB
2.6 BSP for the day.

38.61 BSP to date.
33.89 MYB to date.

35.5 +2= 37.5 MYB.
+3+3 = 43.5

Yeah, I'll be honest, the reviews from what I hear about chiropractors in this neck of the woods is really varied. I am going to try building some strength for a few weeks and see how it goes first. The first couple of workouts have been great! I am getting pretty sore but I'm real good about protein and water. I just gotta get better about sleeping and stretching....

It'll restore glycogen levels. I tell myself that as I stuff myself with fries and chips and beer.

Was up late last night taking my son to the range. Today is a day of stretching and relaxation.

Yeah, every six months. I wish I could get them every 3, but they are too expensive ($856 when insurance don't want to pay and $260 when they contribute). Google 'durolane' its a jell lubricant / treatment for arthritis. Normal people have about 5-7mm of cartilage in their knees, I have about 1mm.

It'd definitely an injection ;) the needle is about 2 inches long. It gets inserted between the patella and the femur while the knee is bent. Then the injection kinds blows up the joint like a balloon. Makes moving uncomfortable for a few days.

Been getting them for 7 years now. Even with my surgery last year (the sculpting of the cartilage), still isn't a cure. I need science to just be able to grow me some new cartilage!

Poor guy. I use a product called tiger balm for inflammation and swelling. Try including ginseng in your diet as well, it helps boost your cardio and takes some iron from your blood being an antioxidant. Maybe some low impact exercise like swimming or biking may help a bit as well in place of running or jogging??. it might help to spread a bit of tiger balm on your knee caps and in back. It gives a cooling feeling that really makes inflamed joints feel a whole lot better. It will reduce inflammation and swelling and give your knee caps a cooling feeling. It is a bit smelly though.. smells strongly like eucalyptus. Might help if you have to walk around at work?? Keep it up TBL!!

myb: +2 = 64 - went for a walk with the wife and kids this morning.
bsp: +1 = 51 - push ups! not my usual routine but better then nothing!

Cap, have you ever seen a chiropractor about your hip problem? My wife suffers from a bunch of different hip problems (she broke one of them when she was 11). She also has a really bad pelvic floor (from having all the kids). She sees this one chiropractor that specializes in women's hips and said it makes a world of difference.

Also I looked at that 'Strong Curves' program. It looks good  Way back when I used to train women, I got the greatest results with strength programs. Also you may try http://www.twohundredlunges.com/. Its the same thing as the one hundred push-ups, but its a system for lunges. You want a booty? lunges is where its at!

TBL, you may want to buy a lifting bench and a bar. Do a few pushups on a scale and see how much weight you are pushing out. (spring scale) add about 10lbs-20lbs, and you could try pushups this way?? This may help if your knees are bothering you. Just crossed my mind, you may have thought of this?? Dumbbells to mix it up and work the different muscles as well??

Yesterday I did some lifting in the morning with 20 lb weights. Later in the day I did some tone with 10 lb weights; not much, but at least something. Today I did a bit of lifting with 20 lb weights. Got some good pulls in with dumbbells. My biceps feel amazing. I feel like doing some more later today. Need a fero steel. Maybe a glow in the dark one lol.. :D
One of these days I think ill hit about 1000 bicep reps with 20's and some shoulder and back arm as well. I am starting up at my tree service job soon and waiting on hearing back from a hardware store about a second job. Second interview and waiting back on the drug test, so. Things have been going well. Keep it up guys! -zemapeli

Thanks for the ideas brother! I would love to swim more, but the times that I would go, do not line up with when the local pools are open. At work I don't need to walk around :) I'm at a desk most of the day. I find running on the treadmill (because of the spring effect) easier on my joints then going out for a run.

Also a great idea! I have a bench set in the basement, I just need to get a few more weights for. The push-ups don't bug my knees ;) I love them for the full body effect they provide. The plank and all the stabilizer muscles, I also switch up grips every now and again!

Good luck on the new job!
