Beckerheads of the Forums, unite.

Let's see...maybe Becker Pack...short form would be BP...I kinda don't like this...could be something about current events...so nevermind. ;)

Idea for a contest? Maybe most innovative use of a Becker knife? That might lead to injuries though, sometimes 'innovative' turns out to be right out stupid (happened to me once or twice). What about a photo contest called "My Becker knife in a not so common place"? A lot of guys here have photos with their Becker knives in their natural environment, but what about places you normally wouldn't take your Becker knives? By this I don't mean places where it is illegal to carry any kind of blade, just a place where you normally wouldn't expect a BK-9 for example. I hope I'm making myself clear here, otherwise I'm just a babbling idiot. :D

It's interesting that the idea for a formal 'group' name is a matter of timing among the brethren. Seems to me, about six months ago not much interest could be found, particularly among the veteran forumites. But, as I said, some things are a matter of timing. Maybe the swarm is ready to fly.

Yes, you're right, RABII, and you were the one who first proposed it, lo those many moons ago. It seems like it was on, then off, and now it's on again.

You're part of the group too, you know, so join in. It really was your idea in the first place, it just took a little longer than you'd hoped.

I just hope that we can keep some life breathed into this thing and after naming, perhaps to further solidify things, you (dawsonbob) can work up some artwork for t-shirts and/or maybe decals. I already fly the ESEE colors on my Jeep and will do the same with Becker.........?

I can — and will — work some things up. As a matter of fact, I already have a few things in the works; we'll talk about those later.

There are a few hurdles to jump before we can do anything officially about patches, T-shirts, decals, etc.

First of all, I will have to see what Ethan has to say. We talked about it a few months ago, but didn't actually resolve anything. He did mention distributing them from Cafe Press. I'll have to examine that further.

Then there's KA-BAR. They make, market and distribute Becker knives, and certainly have a vested interest in the Becker brand, and how it's presented — and that includes artwork. The day after Ethan and I last talked, KA-BAR released it's own Becker T-shirt (and a number of other KA-BAR related T-shirts, which means that they had them in the works for awhile). We have to consider how they feel about this, too: I don't want to step on any toes.

Last, but certainly not least, we have to involve Spark/Blade Forums. We cannot sell or distribute anything like this without involving Spark (the forum owner). Not only would it be discourteous, but it would be a violation of the forum rules, too.

So yes, I'll put some things into motion, but, as I said, there are a few hoops to jump through before these become a reality (at least through official chanels). As Ethan mentioned, I can always put them up through Cafe Press, but I want to talk to Ethan again before I do something like that. It's his brand, after all. Since his name is on the blade, it would be only common courtesy to run it by him. I've been a professional designer for over thirty five years, and have great respect for intellectual property, which includes branding, so I want permissions, first.

I'll see if I can talk to Ethan as a first step, and we'll go from there.

PS. I can — and will — work up some things that we can use as Signature lines, etc. Look for those soon.

Oh, Beckerhead will be in there for sure, since I'm already working on that for Sig lines and other uses. I'm a crotchety old man who doesn't want to have to start all over, so Beckerhead will be in there. That doesn't mean, however, that there won't be alternate artwork: there will.:D
 
I seem to remember someone, perhaps Ethan or Toooj, not liking the idea becaue of the potential for exclusion of non-Beckerheads(giveaways and contests for members only, priotity for sales based on membership, etc.).

If you just want to call yourself a Beckerhead, then there most likely won't be a problem. If you want to belong to a group of people with similar interests, well, you're already there. :D

But I'm cool either way. I'm a Beckerhead through and through. ;)
 
Sounds cool. I don't own one (yet) but I will. I know they are of great quality, and I know Ethan is a stand up guy. That is what I like in a knife (and company)
 
i'm sure we could have a Becker interest group without any pre-reqs, pre-nups, or other such.

course, for a special contest, there might be some fun there. i mean seriously, rewarding good behavior is what it's all about ;)

i'm a becker, you're a becker, wouldn't you want to be a becker too? be a becker, be a becker head...

The keen edged dreams made real by Mr. Ethan Becker created a very real knife knut down here in Arkansas, and at the time I could think of no cooler username to represent my deep appreciation for Becker knives than of course, "Beckerhead" so yeah, it is awesome that we now have our own forum, and possibly a bona fide group and neato mosquito gear!!

What can we do to get it started? Wonder if for a fee we could get Ka-Bar/Ethan to hook us up something like a special for joining? Our number stamped/ engraved in a knife? ( ok not realistic but I can dream right?)

Special offer? I'd throw down for that. Does joining the RP give some special advantage?

I got rid of it, to a SaR buddy of mine. He really liked it, I never use it. All I got now is a 9, 7, 2, 11, and 14. I know, I'm Becker poor. Moose
