Their a bit more here. About 40-45. I just cant decide between a sander or paper wheels.
Problem for me is, I really don't have a place for tools such as this. I don't have a shop, garage, etc.

Go with the sears 2x42" then. It's about $100 but it is quieter than a hair dryer. It is apartment friendly... It's my next purchase.

Quiets one thing, but it's still going to make a mess in your apartment, haha.

Do like I do... I have a bench set up near the window with a box fan pointing out. It works pretty good at keeping the mess out of the loft.

Lay a wet towell under the bottom wheel to catch the dust and sparks.

That's a good idea. Trade, I went to the local store to check out some danish oil. They only had the one size. I wanted to stain it darker, and from what I read, you have to put the natural oil on first, then the stained oil second. That would have been around $25 with tax, so I didn't do it. Only gave $23 shipped for the blade, haha. I forgot I had some golden pecan stain, and conditioner already at home, so I just bought a can of polyurethane to seal it. I wanted it a little darker, but, oh well. I still couldn't get all the paint off that bastard either. I sanded for days, and it still wouldn't come off. So, I applied more Citrustrip to the areas in question, and still a no go. I said hell with it, it's a $23 knife for crying out loud. That's why I kind of wanted a darker stain, to hide it a bit more, oh well.

The wet towel is a great idea, thanks!

The Craftsman 2x42 has a dust port that I hook to my shop vac, but there's still some that ends up on the bench or in the air.

Sounds like a plan. I think the Harbor Freight ones are $30ish, iirc.

Yeah, they are inexpensive. I have three now, two for sharpening and one for cleaning up handles. I use one with a leather belt for stropping and the other for actual sharpening. Ive had one for three years and its still going strong. Belts are cheap online. I have 80 grit to put the edge on but for sharpening I only use 400 600 and go to loaded leather belt.

How much are the belts? ALso, where does one find a leather belt at? Or, did you make it?

belts are around 15.00 for 10 if you look around. I found 50 for 25.00 and am still using them. 5 of each grit will do alot of sharpening. I use the surgisharp leather. They are like 25 but i still use the first one i bought. They stretch over time but you can clamp them so they wont move. Ive probably sharpened over 200 knives with that one belt.
I use gator and blaze belts to grind with and they last the longest. They make a gator in the 1x30 but I havent tried them yet. Im sure that belt would last forever for sharpening and would justify the cost if you wanted fancy belts ;)

Anyone know where I can find used Dr suess books? I wanna get some for my kid but new ones are like 11 to 15 a pop and a complete box set on Amazon isa whopping $700

People have suggested to me local used book stores or places like Salvation Army or Goodwill.

What's some of you guy's favorite stropping compound?

I almost always use just green compound on my strops. I think it's called Woodstock...got it at the big river store.

I have found that the BRKT Black is pretty good for smoothing out a rougher edge, though. I rarely let my stuff get to that point, but it works and I can avoid setting up the Sharpmaker if I don't feel like going that route.

Clich - check Goodwill for those books. We've gotten a bunch of Dr Suess and Where's Waldo books from them for <$1 each.

Warmest day we have had here so far this year and my ac quit. :( Just had it looked at and my compressor blew out through the terminals. Quoted me $1500 for a new unit for outside. I'll have a few things up on the exchange soon.
