Behold, John Locke's Knives from Lost!

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but this thread is awesome. I wanted to throw this question out to everyone:

It's pretty obvious that Locke's collection isn't exactly full of the best knives. So let's say you had to recreate Locke's "box o' knives," but with blades that were of better quality and made more sense for a hunter/survivalist to use. Which blades would have in that box?

If you wanted to replace that Master bowie he has I would probably go with a Marbles Knives Trailmaker. He does have what is either a SOG Seal or Tigershark in season 4, which are awesome knives. The Spyderco and Ka Bar could stay as well. After that, the rest are kind of a joke. All of these cheap Master knives he has would not be in my bag. Probably, there would be a good selection of Benchmade, SOG, and CRKT. If you really wanted to go the extra mile you could get a few TOPS knives.

i dont agree with the ka-bar staying, the weak tang and stacked leather handles just arent competent for a survival knife, it is made for stabbing things and light cutting, i think he should have a hatchet

The reason for the Armchair Commando knives is that Locke WAS an armchair commando, and a loser in a lot of ways.

He got on the plane on a wheelchair, with the intent of "going on a walkabout" in Australia. The knives are all decent to marginal to crap, because he pretty much just went out and bought a bunch of knives.

One knife I'm NOT seeing in the list was an oversized OD coated recurve, looked similar to the Kershaw Outcast but smaller:

**SPOILER**
Anyway, not Locke's knife specifically, but the lead Commando from the ship in the season finale uses a Benchmade Snody Instigator to try to kill Ben and Locke in The Orchid.

Are you sure this is an Instigator?! The instigator I know is a neck knife with skeletonized handle with no scales...

Any word on the bowie knife that...
[spoilers] killed Jacob? [end spoilers]?

Sorry for my english :o

Just found this thread and really appreciate the effort some folks have put into it.

It has answered all the questions I had had about Locke's knives.

...I remember seeing the episode when he opened THAT CASE of knives. That got me hooked...

It was this scene that directly got me back into blades. Before 2005 I had not purchased a knife since 1989.

I went online the next day, and as they say, the rest is history.

Started looking at folders, Khukuri's and then swords.

Ended up buying 2 katana's then some fixed blade knives, and now I have found my passion, Himalayan Imports Khukuri's.

Good work one the identifications.

The knives might be what they are on purpose. I see Locke's character as sort of a Walter Mitty character whose day-dreams have come true. Those are definitely armchair commando knives. Locke didn't have a great job apparently or receive any respect until he hit the "island" and could walk and do all of the things he had only read about. The price point, dramatic carrying case, age, and "mall ninja" nature of a lot of those knives fit in with that character IMO.

I think it would be great if they had a couple of the really cheap ones snap while being used. At least the tips.

 Armchair commandos you say? I would hardly classify the Buck 119 and the Ka-Bar as armchair commando knives.

Those are all crappy knives.

You are absolutely right. The sucess of the Buck line, specifically the 119, is because it is such a horrible, crappy waste of steel. Same goes for the Ka-Bar

there is a tekna wilderness edge knife just like that one for sale in my area, the price is 60, is that a good deal?

Those are all crappy knives.

Isn't that the truth!...you would think with the Millions they spend they could get some decent knives.
I gave up on the show during the second season(I was Lost), so I'm not sure if they have used better knives lately.

Hey everyone. I'm having a difficult time completing my collection. I simply cannot find the Master Bowie YD-1215 that Locke uses. I've tried several sites with no luck. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hi i had that same trouble and i live in the u.k and this website shipped to me i think they ship everywere you can get it for $19.95 from www.lsharp.com.but go onto google.com and put in ''YD 1215 lsharp'' and it should come up. good luk.

How do you kill a "zombie thread"? Is a bullet to the brain or a stake through the heart? I forget.

Yeah, you would think so because Locke was supposed to be knowledgeable and experienced so he would have much better blades than those. ;)

Hi gang,

Once again I could really use your assistance and expertese in helping me to identify a knife used on Lost! It is the knife from the Season 5 finale, that Locke gives to Ben, and Ben uses to stab Jacob. Here are the best pictures I have:

Can you guys help me figure out what this is?

I see that this is an old thread, and I'm not going to read through the whole thing so sorry if this has been mentioned before but...

I watch the show and Ive noticed that in the last two seasons the main knife Locke uses is a SOG Seal 2000 in a custom leather sheath. and it looks to be well used too.
