Benchmade griptilian thread!!!

Martin, wow, just love the pics. I am getting one. I loved the locking system and every thing about the Mini one when I held it. Sure, the larger one was great but I am worried about exceeding a 3" limit with police and anyway, the uses I need it for, the smaller one is just fine. Now, to decide on color of the handle, lol.

I did send a forum member dollars to get a Spyderco Persistence since I liked many of those lines and if he did not have it (he had one), then another member has a Native I am getting, I think.

If you or anyone knows where I can get the Mini at a deal, let me know. I found knifecenter has most of them for $61.00 or so. I do know I want a plain edge as I would never be able to sharpen the serrations. I did get the Persistence in a plain edge. But if I need the combo, please anyone feel free to talk me into it. I think I will get that modified sheepsfoot design and other than color of the handle, I dont think there is much differentiation in the Mini Grip other than blade style - there is no different steel and I guess I can get an all black blade, and that is one dilemna for me.

Thanks all. On my newbie thread, I kept thinking aloud that I really liked how it felt, how it opened and everyone says, if it sings like that to you, you will wish you got it. So I have made the decision. If anyone knows of a trade for one, I have a knife up for trade so let me know. If this is inappropriate, let me know and I will modify my post. Sblaiss at gmail dot com if you need or want to contact me outside the forums.

Edit: I dont think Ill spend the extra coin on the H20 model. I am seeing Pardue designs and then Ritter and something about M4 and it is confusing me. I guess that makes it more dollars? Did I read right that the colored handles are either different material or do something else? If I am going to buy a new one, I want to get it right and so if anyone can explain the different configurations, and if any config is gonna make it more than $70 or $75 online (when I can get a black handle plain edge at $60) then we can skip it, since I did get the Persistence today.

Ok, best pricing around is what? I dont see to many used ones coming up for sale around these parts, one on the auctions it went for $51 shipped. Better to spend $10 more and shipping to get one new, but for $51, Id trust a forum member. Seems that the forums bring out the enthusiasts and with the auction site, its a crapshoot.

What do you think or the plain edge vs. combo edge? My only other good knife, on its way, is a plain edge.

That one is a few years old. The lime green is no longer available:( as far as I know.

achh well hopefully benchmade keeps the griptilian and mini-grip on the permanent production line...well at least until i can gather up enough money for one<---yeah im a broke ass student :(

You want either a plain edge or fully serrated, what's the point of a combo?

I dunno why one would want a combo, but they sell them. So, I dont see myself cutting rope much, and mine will be for general office and home use, light duty. I am thinking plain edge but there was a great offer for a combo. So I decided to ask why a combo and why it may be a better choice than a second plain edge

Here's mine.

There are many threads regarding combo vs plain. Use the search function or this:

I think the Griptilian line will still be here for a long while. I see them as Benchmades workhorse knives that introduce many people to Benchmade. Much like the Delica and Endura for Spyderco. Its just a great knife for the money.

ps. I know what you mean being a student, I am with you on that one, but where there is a will there is a way my friend.

Marthinus, to be honest I haven't really carried it around all that much yet. I just purchased it a few weeks ago. But it seems to be a nice quality folder and will update
this thread as time moves on.
