• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Besides CPK knives, whaddaya like?

At least they didn't do the handle and a thumb ramp like the ABS Bowies where it positions the blade just right to stab yourself in the face...

Bowies are lame (IMO)

I’m not surprised. Trailing points too, I assume ?

Your mod looks almost like my other one:

(They are both the same knife - the Bowie is a one time Busse Custom Shop mod of the above classic)

In any case, remind me next Thanksgiving, and I’ll take a video demo how the Bowie tip is easier to use when carving pumpkins. :)

Roland.

I'll buy one of just about everything that CPK is putting out.
In the airport yesterday I saw a sign "order now from CPK.com". I got excited, but it was some kind of pizza.
I don't want CPK to change, but the Bowie does hold a special place for knife lovers.
Knife shows and even Blade Forums has a Best Bowie contest, not a best Kephart!
I didn't realize until someone started emailing me trying to buy them, but one of Coop's photos of my Bowies made it into Knives 2022, which I thought was cool.
Even the coffin handle I made recently feels better in the hand than you might expect for something designed with no ergos in mind.

These two just came from another US maker. I finished them myself which took a very long time, but I have enjoyed the process. It was a first for me to finish a knife myself, so I valued the experience and the skills I got as a result. The Blue one is in magnacut at around 63 HRC and thin half-height convex with micro (20dps) bevel. I will get the micro-bevel 15dps next time. I am using it in the kitchen and it works great so far! I dare to say it keeps its hair popping edge longer than the Z-Max mule! We are living in very privileged times as knife junkies! The one in yellow is in CruWear around 61.5-62 HRC with 10 dps main bevel angle and 12.5 dps micro bevels. Cuts like a demon! The spine thickness is around 2.5mm on both, so rather delicate work knives rather than sharpened prybars. Definitely not a one tool option :)

I think I was the first person to get a "bowie tip" Custom Shoppe mod of the TGLB, and it all went down hill from there. I remember having to talk Garth into it because he was worried it would overly weaken the tip. Perhaps Nathan had already gotten to him.

Should we start a petition for a SDFK bowie variant? I mean, it would un-American not to, right?

Just call it a swedge with a sharpened tip option.;)

I’d love a thread that was just Nathan roasting knife designs….
I'm really really horrible. I mean unbelievably unbearable when looking at and evaluating people's knives. It's actually uncomfortable. I'm a real riot at knife shows, I have to be the most insufferable asshole in the room. It's a problem. I need to work on that.

absolutely! I love curmudgeons like you they always have the best advice

This one of favorites from Chris Osprey Knife & Tool Osprey Knife & Tool It’s thin, light, and sharp. I don’t know if it would be classified as a Bowie, but it has a trailing, sharpened harpoon tip. It’s CPM 154 with a Bog Oak handle.

That one is great ! I have two Bowies from Chris as well, a Ferox and a lil’ Ferox.

At the risk of being banned, here is a lonely UF in a lot of bad company with the tip pointing in the wrong direction :)

Note that is an older photo that I’ve shared on BF before. My current mix of carries includes several other CPKs.

Just my opinion, but you might not need to change. Fair criticism expressed directly is valuable and has a way of cutting through the noise of overly-sensitive language. The teachers who helped me the most were all like this even if they drove me crazy at the time.
