I kind of doubt we'll ever see a Harpoon from Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist .... :)

Not much use, really, mostly esthetics. Small benefits are heavier and stronger tip, and it being easier to choke the knife spine with thumb or full hand closer to its front.

There are some fighting techniques where the harpoon helps to hold the knife spine under your ellbow (Keating, Szabo), but I don't have use for these.
