Besides CPK knives, whaddaya like?

I'm not really consuming much in the way of cutlery these days, but I saw this Goo in the classifieds and I just could not pass it up!

Here's an example of the inconsistencies with Busse handles, that I've mentioned before.

All 3 blades have recognizable similarities. The 2 handles on the left have recognizable similarities. Why is the handle of the biggest blade less secure/ergonomically shaped?

When you look at the CPK family photo posted by dericdesmond; with the exception of the potato knife, skinner and K18, you can see the similarities in the handle designs in all the other CPK models, as they're iterative evolutions based on intended use (and further refinements).

The handles of the various Busses I once had, were all over the place. The molded thermoplastic handle on the B10 (similar to the 2 handles on the left) were the most comfortable, but some of the handles on the others?

With CPKs, you can pick them up blindfolded, and simply from hiw the handles feel, have an idea that the various knives and choppers were made by the same folks. Not the case with the Busses.

I agree with what you are saying. My understanding is Busse looks for different handle and blade types/shapes to offer a variety of blades to folks. CPK has their handles dialed in and they are good to go and just have leisurely sales and pre-orders. 😅

I am a lover of well designed handles. I picked up a new DT-12 thinking it might be a fun chopper. I like the feel of it but think the handle would not be great for any prolonged use. I have swung it in the house but doubt it will get any actual use. I appreciate knives that feel as though they ‘belong’ in your hand. I have found that chopping is much more efficient if you aren’t having to squeeze your grip in fear of losing ahold of the knife. 🤪

For some reason they decided that the Dt12 should get a sword handle.

Can’t really compare to CPK, Busse is larger with a wider portfolio, different marketing and product philosophy, lots of 12” blades with different handles, for instance. There is a regulator 12 from SYKCO with a different handle. and several Busse with more complicated scales.

For us it’s good to have the choice ?

I just got my new Spyderco Military 2 and really like it. The PM2 has been my favorite all time folder but at times I would like a bit longer blade. Since they finally made it available for tip up (old habit) and compression lock, I had to try it. I do not like flippers, thumb studs, or smooth scales so the ‘nicest’ folders I had simply did not get used as I always gravitated back to my PM2 for my ‘always with me’ folder. I also like S30 steel as it has worked well for my needs. This is like my PM2 on steroids and just may become my favorite folder!

I have converted over to the small Sebenza and am happy with that.
I just had to try its big brother to feel the difference in hand but very quickly decided not to keep the new one. Listed it on the exchange within a few days it it’s arrival. No regrets. It’s a fine knife and the factory stud suits me fine whereas I replaced the ones on the small. 🤷‍♂️
Both are keepers for sure though.
