Love that new Kwaiken design of Paul’s! Nice grab there I’m jealous. That design is even nicer than his prior model of his we have. I may have to upgrade too at some point 😃.

Digging that Volunteer 11 as well. You have all the cool toys!

Serious question Roland, and for you other CRK aficionados.....

Exactly what design goal is achieved by having a thumbstud positioned so that the mechanical advantage is so low that it requires separating your thumbnail from the nailbed to operate?

I ask because there are hundreds if not thousands of folding knife designs that open positively and effortlessly with a thumbstud, and that do it on the first try, that do not require a change in the morphology of your thumb to do so. My uneducated perception is that this is a piss poor design.
A CPK, it ain't.

Personally, I agree with you 100%. A designer/maker can either take the time to engineer a design that's optimized ergomnomically, so it works for just about everyone (and there are HUNDREDS of examples), or you get the designers who go, "Well, you just have to learn to do it right/train your thumb/whatever...".

Hence why the CPK PP address starts with prodeseng@........... You're paying for Professionally Designed and Engineered products and not some production designed to engaging thumbs and toes!

Not sure I agree with you.

The moment Nathan suggested his future (2 weeks?) folder would be a flipper, there were complaints.

Some people "hate" flippers, some "hate" Spydie holes, some think thumb-studs are in the way of cutting (that was me, once) ....

There are different ways to use a flipper ("light-switch" vs. normal push, etc.); some use thumbs only for Spydie holes, others Spydie-flick with any of 10 fingers; thumb-studs are for opening only or (like in the Zaan) also serve as blade-stop, some like to "slow-roll" a thumb-stud, others flick, etc.

We are a complicated bunch; I'm sure it's near impossible for a designer to make everyone happy. So when I get a new opening mechanism, and I have (via other users) existence proof that it works, I blame myself first, not the designer.

I have sold the only front flipper that I once tried. Other than that, I study what the designer intended, try to get used to it, and enjoy it if I get comfortable. That's part of the hobby for me. I've had Hinderer (callused) index fingers, and 'Zaan thumbs. But I like the knives.

Nice grab, I remember that beauty! Love that bead and shape too. Unfortunately, mine is Pre-“tapered tang”. The tapered tangs he’s putting out now is just icing on the cake to the awesome knives he already produces. I’ll have to make sure my next one from him (4th) is a tapered tang.

When you posted yours, I had to look long and hard.....cause I'm pretty sure that I was contemplating that one! Nice grab! And love the sheepsfoot (hope that's what it is!) My first, but wont be my last. He's got so many sweet color options, plus perfect size for EDC.... just have to wait until one strikes your fancy.

Ok, end of Rusev Knives infomercial!!! 😄

Also noticed that I said, "strikes your fancy".....dammit, getting old........
