Besides CPK knives, whaddaya like?

Most knowledgeable CPKers, I’m in the market for a “combat/tactical” knife 6-8 inches and interested in your suggestions. The UF2 is preferred but a bit more coin than I want to spend. Due to my targeted budget of +/- $350, I’m thinking nonCPK. Appreciate your suggestions.

I’ve always liked TRC, but they can be a bit pricy. They’ve also made some knives for James Williams Designs, but again, maybe too far over budget. I like the LionSteel knives and Fallkniven knives, but they may not have the type of design you’re looking for. Besides the length, are there other specifications that you might be looking for? Thanks for the shout out SharpBits SharpBits .

The new MFers have a 7" blade, 11 1/4" overall length, and despite the very different profile from the UF2, match the general spec requirements proposed. However the price doesn't match the stated budget, I'm sorry. MFer is over $100 too little in cost. I wish I could have served your better. I guess I could always bling it up to bring the price up to your budget. ;)

Also, ignore 15N20, I ended up cancelling the model in that alloy, so only AEB-L is coming this year, heat treated by Jarod Todd. I will have three units, one of which is claimed already.

Thanks SharpBits SharpBits !

David Mary David Mary I am intrigued. I was thinking more of a traditional tactical fighter but your midnight is interesting. Let me mull it over.

You might want to touch base with CPE- he makes great knives in a variety of steels with great sheath options. Great guy to deal with on these forums.

BTW, the last UF2 sold for $350 in 2022. Maybe wait a little for one that might come up in the exchange closer to cost (it does happen occasionally), or be open to paying a bit more but get what you really want ? Or offer a trade instead of cash …. I love CPE / Paul’s knives, but don’t think you’ll get something equivalent much cheaper.

This may not be the knife you want but hard to beat Phillip Patton's work.

Anything pictured would work well for a camp / combat style knife. Most of these could be had with a little patience through the forums. Most fall right around the price you listed above. I’ve used all of these.. some more than others, they perform. The fit and finish isn’t going to hold a candle to a CPK ( besides the TRC ).. these are all nearly indestructible tools for normal uses though.

Plenty of makers on here worth checking out.

The Carothers Utility Fighter is a bad ass knife though - hands down my favorite Carothers 👍
