Besides CPK knives, whaddaya like?

This was the knife I had mentioned that superficially reminded me of Richard338 Richard338 's beautiful Loveless inspired blade. Sent to me years ago as a prototype by (Master Smith) Dan Farr in D2 and green canvas micarta. Built as a knife intended for taking out on the trail. Mortised handle. Dan's handles are amazing. (Just ask Matthew Gregory Matthew Gregory )

Dan was a tremendously thoughtful and introspective maker, and a great mentor for me. I pursued a very different path, but his methods and insights were and are still invaluable to me. One of the most significant takeaways I got from him was to question the processes - don’t do it because that’s what the rest of the knifemakers do, as many times they’re merely regurgitating bad information - doing it because ‘that’s the way it’s always been done’. My favorite way to rephrase that is ‘I’ve been doing this wrong for 40 years, I’m no dummy’. I’d laugh, except I see it happen all the time.

My favorite knife from him is owned by a collector and friend. At least, it sure better be, because I made him promise to give me dibs on it should he choose to part with it.

And you’re right, Elliott - his handles are still among the most comfortable I’ve ever held. He ‘got’ it, on so many levels.

Nice knife and throwback, RIP Rob.

Where is Gus sitting on your guys’ trip to the gathering? Front or back of the bike? Lol

Thanks! I also have one of his Chipmunk's that I've owned at least 25 years, also in Talonite. The story behind them was unfortunate and I had them ferreted away a long time but they serve as a reminder and a tribute at the same time.

That trunk doubles as a rumble seat, I'll give him some bomber goggles and a big cigar, we'll look great rolling up the highway ;)

Time for a new project bringing together everything I've learned from Nathan's discussions of design.

Style: Bowie (why make a lesser knife?)

Handle: there should be only one way to hold it, with your hand locked in - subhilt

Blade elements:
-distal taper (for liveliness)
-curved clip (for devastating back cuts)
-recurve (for performance)
-Spanish notch (clubs playing card symbol)- not just an intentional stress riser, but important for trapping your opponent's blade

Very cool!

I’ve got a Simonich Cuda Talon and Mini Talon. The mini is in Talonite, I didn’t really wanna spring for the Talonite on the Talon back in the day. Cool knives regardless, and I use to carry the Mini Talon neck knife all the time and is a great little knife.

It’s your categorical irreverence that will make this work so well, you know…

You forgot to mention Fun steel.....
8670 is one of those steels that is way better than the books say it is, Idk why, it doesn't make sense? kinda like AEB-L is better than it "Should" be.
