The Les George 'Magnate' continues to be one of my favorites. In the 4" blade/8" overall category, it's on the short list, along with my DEK 1.

It’s a beauty, looks extremely capable, perfect size too. You have great taste, thanks for sharing![]()
4 inch blade with a 4 inch handle is the sweet spot for me. I'll have to look around for one of those some time. The Les George 'Magnate' continues to be one of my favorites. In the 4" blade/8" overall category, it's on the short list, along with my DEK 1.

I have one and really like it. It’s an older Filson branded one. They are really handy for light limbing, kindling and ect. I think the Filson ones are orange these days which I don’t love but some people may. You can get them really sharp.BTW, guys, if you need a hatchet, I suspect the new Buck 106 Compadre (limited release yesterday) has great value.
Just picked up this Adam Kornalski Mini Hunter used on the forum. Nice smaller knife, just a wee over 7”, with 3.25” blade. Like a large neck knife, but a bit heavy for that IMO (3.18oz, 3.96oz with Kydex). Carbon fiber scales with red G10 liners.
I sharpened it up today, it’s like a scalpel now!
V4E at ~63 RC. Very similar to CPM 4V.
