Best $30 EDC Blade?

i can suggest for you a little bit large , but cheap and high quality pocket knife like "boker plus titan drop" . Allready about 3 weeks this is my favourite EDC blade and honestly i steel can't belive that i paid for this on KW only 36.95 ....So cool knife !

The Persistence is substantially larger than the Skyline. Maybe not by any particular measurement per se, but just in general. I've owned both, the Skyline is much smaller and lighter to carry.

Both are AWESOME though.

tenacious is definetly a good option, and the skyline is amazing.. havn't had the persistance.... but its "i believe" the tenacious' bigger brother.. so it should be a good knife too!..

only other 1 that comes to mind is CRKT's m-16? never had it... heard good things...

What about a traditional style folder? Light, small, charismatic, and with any number of blades. There are many in your size/price range...you can even find bargains in antique stores if you look. My two favorite knives were each under 20 dollars at antique stores. They work great and are super classy!

You might also consider the Kershaw OD-1.

budget of under $30?

Case still makes some fine little knives. I picked up this Sodbuster recently for $25

The Sog Flashes have a world-class clip and that's the best thing I can say for them. I gave mine away.

The Persistence is one of Spyderco's best value knives and the blade is one of my favorite shapes. If you don't mind the somewhat bulky frame, you can hardly do better for the $$.

The Skyline is a personal favorite in my current quest for lightweight folders. The designer gets top marks, IMO, for managing to put so much into such a small frame.

The thumbstuds don't work as thumbstuds, according to the manufacturer's marketing veep, only as a blade stop. Which is unfortunate for those of us who favor studs. But the flipper works extremely well on my three Skylines (a black handle, a red handle and the last one I could find with a Damascus blade.) You might want to oil the blade, which is bead-blasted and can rust, instead of stonewashed as Kershaw has advertised. If those things aren't an issue, the Skyline is top-drawer for pocket carrying.

One of the small Buck Vantages (the S30V Pro) also is one of my regular pocket carries. The small Vantage also comes in two high-value less expensive versions. The blade length is a convenient 2 5/8 inches.

The clip is deep-pocket and every bit as good as the SOG (but not black, unfortunately.) The drop-point blade is not quite as good for slicing as the Spyderco and Kershaw, but it is strong, has a flipper and a hole-opener, and easy to carry and fun to use. Another great folder for pocket carrying.

The Skyline and the Vantage may be a few dollars over your $30 mark.

Hope this helps.

I have carried a Case Stockman off and on, and deffinately appreciate the traditional knives. I own about 5 different Case and Rough Riders. I carried a Rough Rider peanut for a few days, and really liked it, but seemed to go back to the Kershaw Scallion cause I wear shorts this time of year, and the peanut (or any knife without a clip) will try to fall out of my pocket.

I dont have a persistence but I really like my spyderco tenacious, the skyline is also a great choice and if you want the vantage I would go ahead and get the avid version it's only about $10 more and worth every penny imo.

You might also consider the Kershaw OD-1.

Or even the OD-2. It's tiny, lightweight, inexpensive, and very quick and comfortable to use. I'd pick it over a SOG Flash 1 any day.

The Skyline is another great EDC knife. For me, the thumbstuds are actually usable, but I still prefer the flipper. The Skyline is one of the best slicers that I own, and was a great value.

All 3 of those are very good choices, but a smoking good value is the CRKT drifter, for around $15, it's a great deal

I really don't like kershaw, so out of your choices I would go with buck. However I think a benchmade mini pika is a great utility edc.

After some thinking, I think im going to get a Case peanut, because I have carried that pattern before, and I love how it disappears in the pocket. Everyone made great reccomendations tho, thanks to all ;)

If I were in your shoes I'd go with the Ontario Rat 1 folder like some others have recommended.

The RAT-1 is a great knife if you don't mind carrying a bigger folder; you'd be hard pressed to find a better value blade. I have no experience with the Kershaw Skyline, but I can vouch for the Spyderco Persistence: affordable, great blade shape, adequate steel, decent materials. Gonna throw a wildcard out there and say that the Boker Plus Hyper can go toe-to-toe with the Persistence for value. Great blade shape, nice heat-treatment on the 440C, and carries like a champ. Very thin in pocket, low profile clip and offers a comfortable three-finger grip. For regular EDC use, I prefer the Hyper to the Persistence...

Good luck! :)
