I’m looking for a fixed blade knife that if it were my only knife I could do everything with it.
Since you’re talking survival, I’m guessing that you’re already going to be carrying either a shelter system (tent/bag, etc.) or additional tools to make a shelter (axe, saw).

If not, I’d suggest a larger knife that can chop for shelter making.

Lack of shelter/thermoregulation is by far the most likely thing to kill you in the woods, so make sure you’re always carrying shelter or the tools and knowledge to make some.

Remember the rule of 3s:
3 minutes without air
3 hours without shelter
3 days without water
3 weeks without food

Shelter is king in the wilderness.

I quickly skimmed thru the thread, so if Lionsteel hasn’t been mentioned, take a look at their fixed blades.

I’m looking to buy a knife within this price range to celebrate a significant milestone.

I’m looking for a fixed blade knife that if it were my only knife I could do everything with it. Hunt, cook, cut lemons, cut sandwiches, peel fruits, bushcraft (I won’t ever use it for battoning as I’m against using a knife to baton but that’s neither here nor there), you name it. I’m looking for a high quality steel that will stand up to most situations. Retaining a good edge, tough (possibly able to do light prying), scale & guy fish, cut steak, cut vegetables, cut feather sticks. I don’t want something too small or too large. I think 8.5” or so minimum and 10” maximum. For blade length I’d preferably want 4.5-5.5” and I’m looking for micarta handles.

I’m really liking the Bark River Aurora in 3V and have been impressed with reviews on YouTube. My only concern is that I believe 3V steel may be prone to rusting especially considering how I plan to use it, especially cutting lemons/other citrus fruits.

Just buy this one CPK D3V Kephart and don't look back :)

(No connection to the seller, but I do have 3 of Nathan's Kepharts)

Thanks a lot for reminding me. I never considered this previously but I fully agree with you that a larger knife than what I specified would be much better for being a survival knife.
