I tried messaging the maker on here but didn’t see that option. Do they release them in batches only?

Hey bikerector bikerector , do you still have any from the last run?

Mine came from the July 2021 run of them. There may still be some unspoken for. I don't know. I can say it's been a great, very versatile knife. I've used it for bushcraft/woodsy stuff, cooking, general household utility etc... its versatility is really hard to beat.

Mine is AEB-L which is a great steel, and he uses a very well known heat treater, so the HT is spot on.

The specs are very close to what you laid out in the OP:

Blade Steel AEB-L Stainless Steel
Hardness 61 RC
Heat Treated by Jarod Todd Heat Treating
Blade Grind High convex
Blade Thickness 5/32”
Blade Length 6.0”
Blade Width 1.5”
Handle Material G10
Handle Length 5.0”
Overall Length 11.0”

LINK<-- for the brute page in the maker's section. It also has some other pics and comparisons I did with my Brute.

Thanks for the tag 19-3ben 19-3ben

2 21Sebenza , you have to have a paid membership in order to PM on bladeforums. You can post on people's wall. For myself, please email me at goodknifeco@gmail.com.

Unfortunately, I do not have any unused bush brutes on hand or in the works at the moment. I say unused because the only brute I have is the one I personally use with a uniquely textured handle I've been testing out... and I also really like the knife :).

I have a thinner edition of the brute in the works right now, but not what I would recommend for an all around survival knife, being 3/32" thick blade stock.

Thanks for all the suggestions but I’m going to just buy the Bark River. I really liked the custom made options but I don’t have the time or patience to be waiting for knives to restock or be fast to put an order in to purchase a knife that sells out quickly. If I can’t go to a website and place an order or speak with a maker and have an order fulfilled I’m not interested.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your time.

Forgot to mention, we do one-offs if you have a special request. There is a lead time for that, of course. I normally do batches as it's cheaper to buy materials in bulk and I just haven't made it back to getting a sheet of 5/32" steel.

Edit: just saw your desire for rapid fulfillment. I'm probably not your best option at this time. If you changebyour mind, feel free to reach out to me.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I am curious if you have read any of the many threads here concerning Bark River? I have no experience with them and all I know about them is what I have read here at the forum and it's not good! I don't want to start another Bark River Discussion here, just curious if you aware of some of the alleged problems with the company and it's products?

HUGE FAIL.

Why would you choose to support a proven criminal who has a decades-long track record of fraudulent and unethical behavior and sub-standard products, questionable (or non-existent) warranty, and a history of mis-representing the blade steel used in their knives?

He has stolen from many people, a lot of us right on this very forum.

Cool man. I’m not asking you for a donation to buy the knife so you shouldn’t have any issues sleeping at night due to the decisions I choose to make.

It's not cool. This forum is dedicated to educating people and raising the bar in all things knife-related.

You do all of us a dis-service when you support people like Mike Stewart and Bark River. It's selfish and ignorant, especially when there are SO MANY better knives from honest people and companies who don't run a business based on lies and deception, and have warranties and ethics that they stand behind.

If you have read ANYTHING about Bark River on this forum and then still think the right choice is to buy one, it is YOU that should have issues sleeping at night.

I wish you all the best, have a great day and stay well ✌.

I have prepared food with my Skrama. It does that sort of fine work. I just wouldn't want to be doing lots of it because it's heavy.

But obviously it chops and hacks really well.

So I think it could be an all rounder. Just a bit leanie in a certain direction.

Which is probably going to happen anyway.

I think that will be the issue. Big knives will do small knife tasks kind of ok. Where small knives won't chop.

And that's fine but not the end of it. You may not want to drag around a big knife doing kind of ok just in case there is chopping.

Too Late :)

I was going to suggest the Aitor Jungle King. It is one of the few classic 1980s "survival knives" that is still in production. It has a good blade, solid build quality and enough gadgets to accomplish the main purpose of a good survival knife. To allow the user to sit still and await rescue.

I’ve decided to just hold off on the purchase for now. I have folding knives that I love and have used for years and wanted to simply get my first high quality fixed blade knife. It’s turning out to be a bit of a headache so I’m going to just hold onto my money, probably put it into my high interest savings account and call it a day lol.

How about an Esse 4 or 5 or 6. In a pinch you can sharpen it on a river rock if need be. Tops also has a few nice models as well. Some steels will be harder to sharpen or need special sharpening equipment. Good luck on your hunt for a new model that's the fun part... the hunt. 👍
