Slightly larger than your 5.5" but the Lionsteel T6 in K490 a superb steel.

And I think one of the US vendors is selling for $305. That's where I'd spend my money.

I’ve decided to just hold off on the purchase for now. I have folding knives that I love and have used for years and wanted to simply get my first high quality fixed blade knife. It’s turning out to be a bit of a headache so I’m going to just hold onto my money, probably put it into my high interest savings account and call it a day lol.
Take time and do some research, I think you have chosen the best option right now. On the Bark River, despite all the bad stuff there is on the man, one thing to consider that has nothing to do with that stuff is some of the questionable heat treatment and steels used that would make me leery to buy one. I can get past the bad stuff on the man, but I cannot get past a knife that will leave me with doubts about its quality, especially at those prices. There is a good bargain on a knife in the exchange right now, for 175.00 in 8670 steel. As mentioned before, Siegel knives are good bargains too.

How about an Esse 4 or 5 or 6. In a pinch you can sharpen it on a river rock if need be. Tops also has a few nice models as well. Some steels will be harder to sharpen or need special sharpening equipment. Good luck on your hunt for a new model that's the fun part... the hunt. 👍
Thought about the Esee 4 but I watch a few videos and thought the handle may be too small for me and I have medium hands. I checked out the 6 too but I think it’s a bit too big for me. I’ll probably end up buying an Esee or a cheaper model not costumed if I do buy a knife.

If you're looking for all-arounders, I'd point you to the Benchmade Leuku and Cold Steel 3V knives, such as the SRK. I'm a sucker for 3V.

Malanika and other custom knife makers will probably run slightly outside your price range. Maybe @David Mary can help you out with that, his stuff might not be the fanciest, but they are built to be used.

That price range includes most bark rivers. I luckily have mostly positive experiences with them, especially their 3V. An Aurora or Bravo 1 in 3V and micarta will go a long way. Don't get their CPM154, I've read AND personally had crappy experience...

Good luck! Plenty of choices out there, theres not really a wrong choice.
I reccomend David Mary as well.
