Best folding knife choice for the outdoors?

I carry a Buck 112, but a Case Sodbuster would do me just as well.

Actually, my 112 is ALL I carried for years. I seem to have survived just fine.

I've carried my Benchmade Pinnacle many times. Great, solid knife even if it's a bit heavy.

In recent years I've tried to pare down the weight of my pack and I've carried an old Zytel-handled Benchmade Panther. It's nearly as big as the Pinnacle but a featherweight in comparison.

I've used a BM 551 and 710 when out and about. Both incredibly reliable knives, performed well with everything I put 'em through. If only BM was smart enough to put out a Grip line with G10 or aluminum handles. ;-)

More of a multi-tool than a "true" folding knife, I also like the SAK Trailmaster one hand opener (once known as the "Trekker").

Here's a pic of my Benchmade Panther that I mentioned above. Zytel, AUS-8 steel. Nice little knife.

My main outdoor folder is an old Spyderco Military that I've had since they first came out. I also often carry a SAK Farmer or a SAK OHT - both great for their saws, which I find to be perfect for trap making, etc. I also carry a Leatherman Wave that has pretty much everything you could possibly want + all the weight you don't want, but it serves it's purpose.

I think my ultimate folder would be the Blade-Tech PH Magnum Extreme with the blaze orange handle. Tops my list of folders right now.

I have a spyderco Manix and a Benchmade Griptillian that I trade off between as my EDC and woods carry knife. The Griptillian is lighter but I love the solid feel of the Manix it reminds me of my old buck 110s.

I also usually have a SAK farmer or a schrade buzz Saw trapper in a pocket.

In the area I live in hikes often start or go through sheeple infested areas, plus driving to and from the hike a folder is just easier to carry without drawing attention.

This beast, with its 4” by 1-3/8” D2 blade, is on my baldric rig right now.

With its locking liner lock design it is very secure for a folder.

As folders go, …this one's growing on me.

I'll do a review sometime soon.

Not many responses if any saying the manix. Its a great heavy duty folder. I also have my eye on a benchmade 707

I carry my paramili and my vic farmer...as far as folders go. I do carry my RAT 3 tucked into my belt when I am in the woods. I have really had my eye on a case soddie, but just can't justify it right now. Besides I am running out of pockets and I am already wearing cargo pants. Maybe for my birthday.

My woods blades are mostly fixed blades.
The only folder I carry is a SAK.

+2. I used to carry a Delica, Endura, 110, or ZT0200 while hiking (in addition to a Farmer or OHT), but the Izula has replaced them. I also keep a Leatherman Skeletool in my daypack mainly for the pliers and basic drivers.

I carry a little BUCK prince. Its slim enough that it carries unnoticeably and does delicate work better than my larger fixed blades.

At my Walmart in Wisconsin, they are on clearance for $15. Check it out; I hope they are on sale at yours.

I thought SAK was "thee" outdoorsman's folder?!?!

I carry a Victorinox One-Handed Trailmaster (currently Trekker, renamed after I got mine!)

I also have a whole BAGFUL of SAK's and a few other folders, but the Trailmaster is my favorite for outdoor uses.

A simple Buck 112 has been my primary locking folder for over thirty years -- indoors and outdoors -- and it's never let me down. It handles all the simple chores that I don't use a FB for. I'm sure there are other great knives out there, but the spring is still tight on the Buck with no blade play. I think I paid around $8 for it way back when. Great knife, for the price.

When I can get out in the woods, I usually carry the knife I have been already edc'ing. That is usually a ZT0200, or a ZT0500 MUDD, along with whatever slipjoint, usually a Case or a Vic super Tinker, I happen to be using at that particular time. I have found the 0500 to be an excellent user even if it is a little large and thicker bladed. The sealed pivot and sealed lock area is purpose built for using as an outdoor knife.

My favorite folders are Vic SAK Adventurer, Spyderco Endura, SOG Mini-Vulcan, and Case or Remington Trapper. The Adventurer finds itself in my pocket every single day.
