Which knife do you think that is the best for EDC/Camping knife (and some hard use)?

HK Axis 14715
Cold steel recon 1
Spyderco Paramilitary 2/Manix 2

I have no idea which one to get
Thanks

Recon 1 would be the toughest knife in the list, the Para2 and Manix the most slicey (although the recon1's thin hollow grind isn't too shabby as well)

I'll be back

Hard use? Recon 1. Strongest lock on the planet. I could break a Para 2 if I tried, but not a Recon 1. But they all cut stuff, so it really boils down to which one you like the most.

All great knives......choose the one that grabs your eye.
Good luck!
Joe

Manix 2.
Ergos trumps all.
Take a comfortable knife and one that is less so and see which is more confidence inspirin when you are tired, cold, or otherwise...
You can sharpen a knife, the lock is more than sufficient, and generally accepted as a "Strong lock".

Get a Cruwear sprint and be happy that you have a knife that will last a lifetime with a steel that can take your abuse. It is right up there with 3v and pd1...

Of course the Cold Steel has the strongest lock and it has great steel, too, if you are looking at the current CTS-XHP version. However, the Spyderco Manix is plenty strong and is a better slicer. The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is no slouch either. Both Spyderco's make one hand opening and closing much easier and safer than the Cold Steel. Also, the PM2 is much like a semi-custom knife in features and fit and finish. The Spydercos will be better slicers and the Cold Steel will be better if you are digging in the dirt or stabbing through a car hood.

Personally, though I like the Cold Steel products I do not like the looks of the Recon 1. It is a bit ungainly looking, but not in actual use. I like the Paramilitary for a day to day carry knife as it is lighter, feels good in the hand, and cuts really well, and looks good doing it.

I'd choose the Manix2 or PM2 over the others for every conceivable task. They are both awesome knives with the Manix being a little heavier/larger. The finger choil on both will give you control and versatility the others lack. I also find them to be the most comfortable knives of the bunch.

Is there a local store where you can handle them all? That might make one or two stand out from the rest. I agree that the Recon 1 is best for hard use but they're all really good knives.

I would go with the HK Axis. Frankly, an extremely under-rated knife. It is extremely strong (axis lock) decent steel, great traction etc. It overall wold be the best.

Get the Manix but spend more and get a Chris Reeve knife. You will eventually use it and carry it more.

The good news is there isn't a loser in the bunch, there isn't a wrong choice to make. Aesthetics, personal preference will come into play.

If I were making the choice from that list for me personally, I would pick the para2 and get me some burple love....

my frist impulse was to vote for the para 2 its a great knife but hard use the sharp usefull tip of the para 2 maybe not. let me say this if someone i knew asked me for my knife and i didnt want to worry if he or she would bring it back in 2 pieces i would hand them the recon 1

PM2 first due to its ergonomics that make it the best "all purpose" knife I have

Second the Hk axis. It has a very robust blade tip and Inthink it is very good for the price

IMHO Manix it just too large for the blade

I am not a cold steel customer so I cannot comment on the recon

Well....honestly....if you are lumping the Paramilitary 2 and Manix 2 together as, in effect, the same knife when they have different blade and handle shapes, different locks, etc, it might help you to get a better feel for how features affect how well a knife does what you want it to to.

Same goes for "EDC/camping"....those at two pretty different tasks.

I'd get a Delica and a SAK like a Vic Farmer. You will have 2 excellent knives and will learn about what makes them different and what works better for the tasks you want to do.

Pick the one you like best.

Or that. Its excellent advice. They are all very fine knives, but different enough to where the choice should be obvious based on personal preferences and what tasks one is trying to do.

Nothing wrong with that, nobody magically starts out knowing what they like in a knife....gotta start somewhere.

Pick the one that "works" for you and go out and use it. Might love it, might hate it. Its how it goes.

I have a manix 2 cruwear that carry daily. My large 21 sebenza with the new heat treat protocol sits in storage.

The edge retention, ease of sharpening, and ergos are better on my manix, and I prefer that in a work knife.

I like the look of the knife but I afraid to buy it because there are a little number of reviews/test on youtube and on the internt.
Everyone is telling me to get the Spyderco knifes but they look a little bit too gentle and I afraid that they could not handle the hard tesks.
Recon 1 looks super tough but not very sharp/can't hold is edge well.
and the HK has no reviews/field tests on youtube and I could not find a lot of recommendations to get this knife.

sharpness: Spyderco>Axis>Recon 1
toughness: Recon 1>Axis>Spyderco
Edge hold: I have no idea

what do you think?
