Best low dollar fixed blade?

The Spyderco M4 Mule Team knife was probably the best bang for the buck.

Currently you have a choice of Aogami Super Blue or Takefu’s Cobalt Special. Both available at Spyderco, just do a search for "mule" at their website.

They're little knives though. ;)

It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on Swamp Rat knives' website for their knives du jour. Their knives are usually very good bang for the buck.

Best bang for buck must be the relatively recent Mora Bushcraft series.

My Mora 711 Working Knife ist perhaps the cheapest knife I ever owned, but I use it a lot. For hard work!! It costed just 7,95 € (!!!). The carbonsteel blade is very easily to sharpen.

Kind regards

without knowing what the knife's purpose will be, here are just a few suggestions:

1. becker bk2/bk7/bk9
2. buck 119 or nighthawk
3. condor rodan or bushcraft
4. spyderco aqua salt
5. ontario knives (many models)
6. kabar (many models)
7. mora

Cold Steel Master Hunter can be had for around $75...that's a pretty legit bang-for-your-buck fixed blade, if you ask me.

I bought one of these several year ago and the tip broke off under normal use. I called and Buck said to send it in. They sent it back with the tip ground down. That's the last Buck I ever bought.

For my money, it's Mora fixed blades, SAK and Case folders.

I've had a Buck Nighthawk for over a decade that I picked up for about $40. I've pried things, used it as a can opener, chopped up fish, stabbed through walls, you name it. It's got a 6.5" blade and is 1/4" thick. Buck does a surprisingly good job on their HT of 420HC, too. Tough, tough knife. Gets my vote

Being swedish i grew up using Mora's alot so im a little biased ^^

I do love the ESEE 3 tho, but for its value, the Mora 2000 is absolutely amazing, its durable and cheap, i think its about 5 mora 2000's on 1 ESEE 3.

I have no experience at all with the Mora Bushcrafts, but they do look nice and i have been hearing good things.

Ive had my 2000 for about seven years now i think and its prepared lots of meals, made shelters, pryed open everything there is to pry. It also batons and chops good for the size. It takes a decent edge using a 2€ stone spending 2 minutes, with a fine stone and some time, that thing will get scary sharp for quite some time.

Its a great knife that wont make you cry if you loose it or break it, but without abuse it will last you many, many years:thumbup:

Les Stroud uses a Buck 119, and he likes it. 30 bucks at various retailers.

Cold Steel SRK in San Mai III at 100 bucks is good too, (even the AUS8 version at ~60 is good)

Of course there is always the Kabar USMC at about 40-50

Other ones I forgot, that are high value

CS Bushman at about 20 bucks

CS Bowie Machete if you can find it, at about 20 dollars

and CS Spear point machete at about 15-20 bucks

I appreciate all the replies! After MUCH deliberation........ With a Total (shipped) price of $41.98 (knife, sheath, neck cord new in the box)........

.the winner is.............

Ka-Bar Becker Eskabar BK14 Please feel free to post opinions on my purchse!

My opinion is that your final choice is a lot different than what you asked about in your original post.

I guess I will narrow it down a bit. Multi purpose 7-10". Hunting (dressing quartering)/survival.

ESKABAR is........

Steel Type: 1095 Cro-Van Carbon Steel

Overall Length: 7"

I wanted 7-10" OAL and good steel for under $100 in a field dressing/quartering/survival knife. I think it fits right in to what I was looking for. Maybe a little short though.
