Best low dollar fixed blade?

i wouldn't call a $100 "low dollar".

but, the Mora line and the Ka-Bar USMC come immediatly to mind.

From what I have seen on this site...$100 is upper end of low dollar. You guys are into knives like I am in archery.

I bought one of these several year ago and the tip broke off under normal use. I called and Buck said to send it in. They sent it back with the tip ground down. That's the last Buck I ever bought.

For my money, it's Mora fixed blades, SAK and Case folders.

You don't break Buck Knighthake, or any other knife tips under normal use. They cut stuff. They aren't to pry with.

I've had a Buck Nighthawk for over a decade that I picked up for about $40. I've pried things, used it as a can opener, chopped up fish, stabbed through walls, you name it. It's got a 6.5" blade and is 1/4" thick. Buck does a surprisingly good job on their HT of 420HC, too. Tough, tough knife. Gets my vote

Stabbed through walls?

Well, as always, it would be nice to know what you're going to use it for.

I like the Cold Steel Recon Tanto and the OSS. If you want a heavier, sharp knife, the S&W Homeland Security Tanto is a great buy. It has a heavy 440C blade, a very nice sheath and a sharpener. It's one of the great sleepers in my view.

One that goes around a hundred bucks is the Buck Alaskan from Cabelas. It has a beautiful titanium plated S30V blade. The wood handle holds up better than the Kraton handle, at least according to reports. It is one of the nicest fixed blades out there.

Ka-Bar is known for their fixed-blade knives and they offer a variety of styles. Oh, and finally, the Boker Plus Armed Forces (spearpoint or tanto) is nice if you can find it for a good price. When the spearpoint was discontinued, I bought about six of them for $29.95 apiece. I have mixed feelings about the serrated part, but it was a decent 440C blade.

Oh wow

I cant believe that no one has mentioned the superb BK9 well under 100 and i think it stands toe to toe with alot of knives double the price.

another vote for the BK9:thumbup:

I probably would have gone for a Benchmade Rant in D2. Nothing wrong with the Eskabar, but a little small and not as comfortable for long use situations like dressing larger game, not to mention cold weather usage. Hand cramps in a survival situation are life threatening.

You got some of that $100 left over. You can get CTK Hudsons Bay for heavier tasks and a Mora stainless clipper for lighter ones. :)

I dont own one but the GI Tanto from Cold Steel seems like a good bargain. Knife Destruction test showed the Cold Steel kukri in 1055 to be almost indestructible and the GI tanto is made from the same 1055.

I own a Cold Steel GI Tanto because I couldn't not justify owning for the price.
