Greetings blade aficionados! I am the popo from Northern New Jersey and I would appreciate any suggestions for a sensible folder for on-duty use. If possible, the knife should include a window punch and be suitable for cutting seat belt fabric and slices of cake.

Thank me!

Mark... I mean JERcop,

I would look at the folders from MicroTech and then Emerson.

All the best,
Rich

depends how much you want to spend.

i carry two emersons on duty. a cqc13 for cutting tasks, and a combat kerambit for weapon retention.

for a window punch you would have to get a rescue type knife. s&w makes one.

Well, my funds are limited. I have an ex and two grown sons hanging onto my wallet!

Find a Microtech Socom elite, one of the best of the duty knives out there

Check out the Strider/Buck 889SBMF ($60.00 SMKW) I EDC one & love it , it's built like a tank ! They say the older models had weak locks but the new ones have been fixed (thicker line lock) So make sure you get one made after 2005 I think it was.;)

Take a look at the offerings from Spyderco. They're quite popular with the local police where I live.

I've had to cut a seatbelt once with my Benchmade 710 D-2. But that's a pretty big knife, and fairly expensive. It worked quite well though!

The "first" responder on an accident scene isn't always a policeman or fireman. Sometimes, it's an elderly historian! :p

Definately the Microtech Amphibian, part serrated because of the need to cut strong slippery fabric. It has, bar none, the best srgo's of a folding knife I have ever held and I have handled hunddreds of different models from all the major makers.

They are not cheap, but you should know by now, that you only get what you pay for anyway.

Thank me!

Especially the slices of cake ...

Depending on where in Jersey you're hiding, ( ha ha ) I can show you a SOCOM Elite, as fine a working knife as anyone ever made.

Thanks for the website reconranger! SuperModerator, Urban Poet do you have a picture of the SOCOM? If so, can you forward that (and some cake) to me?

To keep your Job safe... I would not use anything not issued & trained for by the Dept. you work for. Bad boys & Gals just love to SUE nowadays. Please protect your hind end.!

Benchmade ERT-1 is a great cutter. Has a window breaker, belt cutter and light. I use one everyday at work cutting straps, heavy plastic, etc. Not any good for cutting cake or self defense though.

It should fit into your budget also.
Gerber Hinderer Rescue Knife will cut cake but no light. If you don't mind 440A steel it may be worth looking at.
