Best Police use knife

The Spyderco Delica served me very well for a few years. The price was reasonable too.

The Leatherman Charge would be very handy for any officer IMO.
The pocket-clip and one-hand-opening of the plain-edge blade and the sheepsfoot blade (with gutting hook) make it very appealing.
Andf it makes a fine fistload if you had to punch someone.

I would prefer the knife to have a pocket clip so it can be carried in the front pocket without interferring with my gun belt.

One huge advantage of the Emersons is the wave feature! With a little practice, the knife comes out slick and easy in the open position. No need to fumble trying to thumb and flick it open. Just as fast as any fixed blade or switchblade!

Also, clipped in your pocket it is less conspicuous, and would be less of a targer for a knife grab than a fixed blade attached to your belt.

You thinking of carrying strong-side, or off-side??? If off-side, you can buy "left hand" models (or switch the clip over if you pick a Karambit). Carried off-side it would be good insurance against a gun grab. Or, carry the knife strong-side, and a La Griffe off-side......lots of possible options!

I'd say a Spyderco Native.. No window punch but a good sized, SOLID, SHARP, blade for a great price, around $40-sum online. I've been very happy with it. I also carry different Kershaw Leeks, too. You can't go wrong with either one.

Most likely I will carry the blade in support side pocket. Another consideration in addition to pocket carry is boot carry. What do you think about that Esav?

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Gerber Hinderer Rescue. Maybe I missed it.

Esav, in your upcoming discussion on Boot Knives, please do mention "acquistion drills" getting to a boot carry knife.

That is also a consideration. I usually carried 2 knives on me & had tools in my bag, if needed. A double edged boot knife (If allowed by your Dept.) & a weak side folder is ideal.

You'll probably find yourself using the folder for just about anything (Opening baggies, cutting "stuff", etc.), while the PE dagger is your "go to" knife on a gun grab (At least another option, & being duel edged makes it easy to just draw & stab with no need to orient the blade &/or handle correctly).

I carry a RAT RC-3 fixed blade inside my right front pants pocket; rigged up a piece of paracord to go thru the Kydex-type sheath. Works nice; the brass and the public don't even know it's there.
(I'm also PoPo in Northern NJ)

I will second that a Microtech Socom elite is a helluva carry knife. I love autos and I have about 10 high end switchblades. But, for any situation that has your ass or someone else's in the balance, there's too much possibility for failure. I've had Microtechs fail, benchmades, and plenty of others. They all fail.

I guess I don't really have a suggestion, just thought I'd offer my opinion up on the autos. If it were me, I'd carry a leatherman charge, halo, and some sort of hefty 10" folder or like was suggested a few posts up, a RAT 3. Actually I carry all those now. lol.but I'm a freak.

what about the spyderco police no glass breaker but its large enuf to use the but end am i right??

How about a Benchmade Ritter in combo with a resQme, seat belt cutter window punch combo tool. Or maybe an all in one SAK Multitool with a built in seat belt cutter like my Swisstool RS. IT fits inside my 40 cal basketweave magazine pouch.

I would like to recommend MOD Mark I or Mark II. Both have outstanding ergos. Very tough knives. Both have glass punch. Mark I also has a built-in seat bealt cutter. The andles are aluminum and very light. Oh, and they are button lock (available both in auto and manual).

I still say that for a knife the rescue blur has what you need. good steel, glass breaker, dulled tip so you don't stab anyone.

but if you go the multitool route (which I do know more about) I'd have to say gerber over leatherman. The only exception would be if you used the knife far more than the pliers. The leathermen are larger and heaver, and have more difficult to access tools. I can access every tool on my gerber one-handed, while I hold something else up with my other hand. The one-hand opening mechanism on the gerbers can scare some sheeple into thinking you have a switchblade. but once you hold it still for a second they'll see the difference.
