Best slicing performance

A key requirement of a great slicer is (next to a suitable geometry) that you want a thin blade.
Some of my best slicers are Opinels and laguioles. The classic german "kat55" Mercator knife (still available) and the french douk-douk also excel.
Furthermore, my Eka Masur 88 also has a thin blade that slices well.

Probably my best production slicer is Caly 3 CF, as it had a .012" edge at 9.5 degrees per side. I would imagine a Fallkniven U2 would have impressive factory slicing performance. My best custom slicer is my .007" edged Krein Ultimate Caper n CPM M4. My Krein reground Caly Jr ZDP with it's high hollow ground .005" edge is my best slicer by a nose over my Ultimate Caper. My Caly 3 CF will soon have a .004"-.005" edge but with a FFG once Tom Krein has finished with the crazyness of getting ready for Blade show. I need my nice, smooth CF knife to perform at least as good as that FRN Caly Jr.

Several spydercos and kershaws. The stretch 2, and the SG2 blur slice like a dream. The BG42 millie is certainly up there, as is the ZDP caly jr.. Kershaw has some that are in the 30 ish dollar range , like the Skyline that amazes me with it's slicing performance which would show up some expensive customs and semi customs I've had. It sharpens really easy too.

I have an inexpensive japanese knife in blue steel at around RC62 ish that slices like a laser too. Better, IMO, than a more expensive R2 custom ( who knows what kind of steel R2 really is as it's a high end proprietary steel used by Mr. Itou), used by a well known knifemaker from Japan. Joe

Mike, I can confirm that what you said about U2.

Next to that, I will add another vote to the Opinels. They surely are amazing slicers, and taking into account of their cost, outstanding value.

+1 for Sebenza. That high hollow grind slices well even when somewhat dull.
+1 military. It's thin grind can also slice well even when somewhat dull.

Benchmade Ares. I was surprised too. It took less effort than any folder I owned at the time to cut cardboard, beating out a Casper/CRKT folder, Spyderco Delica, CRKT M-16 Spearpoint, and a couple of others. Possibly the perfect knife for me, but I gave it to my brother and then BM discontinued them.

Ah, so many to consider...

but, the top four would have to be these;

Queen Dan Burke "Real Cattle Knife" in BG42 (all three blades)
Kershaw JYD in Sandvik 13C26
" JYDII in Composite D2
" Ti JYDII in SG2

Excellent grind and geometry on all of them.

It's still....

Any, and all, of my Fallkniven folders. They arrive razor sharp and durable.

That said, with very few exceptions, pretty much any folder I have ever purchased has been a respectable slicer out of the box.
