Photos Best Slipjoint of 2017 List (Give Away)

My favorite knife with handles of my favorite color....and I really feared I had missed out. I was lucky to find a great member who sold me one...and then a few weeks later got a second one for a user. I'm in Mike. Thank you for the chance at one I wasn't able to get!

2017 was a very good year knife wise with lots of good choices. For me it has to be the Roundhead!

This was not an easy choice. There was 3 and possible 4 entries for me this year. I’ve really been thinking about this since @Jack Black ’s thread. I wanted to try the Delta Jack before I made a choice. I had to try one first, before I considered answering this question.

For several reasons, I chose this knife.

1. An etch that I like.
2. Long pull.
3. A button.
4. Saw cut.
5. Different red.
6. Unique tube.

That's a beautiful knife and I'd be a fool not to try for it, especially since I don't yet own a GEC.

This Victorinox tinker is my only slipjont bought new in 2017, and I absolutely love it too.

It's funny, because after years of asking GEC to make a run of my favorite pattern, they did, and in several variations. And boy did they sell out fast. And folks must like them because I sure don't see them on the secondary market like a lot of the other SFOs. So, for me at least, it has to be the Irish Congress. Seen here with the 2013 Forum Knife and an older Fight'n Rooster in the same pattern.

It isn't the only slipjoint I've gotten this year, but it was the only one made this year, so here is my knife of the year:

It has to be the forum knife. I did not acquire too many slip joints this year; this one is far and away the best. It has a lot of things I like, especially the natural canvas handle and the single sheeps foot blade. It is only my second GEC.

Another single-bladed sheepsfoot, the Okapi Biltong, became my Knife of the Year recently because it hogged so much pocket time, but the difference in production values renders a direct comparison fatuous.

NOT an entry, but thank you, Mike for the generous GAW. I was fortunate to get some really nice knives this past year, any one of which could easily be a favorite..... the Lionsteel Barlow, a couple beautiful #66 stockmans, & the list goes on, but if I have to pick just one favorite it has to be this micarta Churchill.

Mine is the Plow by Masserin, thanks Mike for making that happen. Thin behind the edge, D2 steel with a high hardness, and fantastic ergonomics. It arrived slightly rough but was easy to tune up. I have carried a pocket fixed blade daily for several years and the Plow has supplanted those for many days. This is mine on grill/kitchen duty.

Not an entry please, but thank you again Mike for this.
