best survival knife?!

I am still waiting on the F1, so I guess it's my one hand trekker ot my farmer, not to mention the moras.
Magnum22, how do you like the buck strider? I have the tarani model, I love it but it's for trade in the exchange forums, I like smaller folders for EDC.
The grip doesn't look comfy, but it is one of the best feeling in the hand knives I have come across.

the 889 is a good knife. it's the only folder i own that i've tried to split with, and it handled the baton fine. took longer than my large fixed blades would, but it worked. usually i'd do that with the ranger, and boy is it easier.

if in survival you need to get under a car hood for parts to construct a cannon, or go cart, you can use your dumpster mutt to pry the hood off. see?

Okay, I'll admit it, fixed blades are nice, I just put on my 1 out of maybe 5 fixed blades that I have (all of which are inexpensive and well under $50.00) and it felt pretty good. It is a simple Gerber Freeman Hunter and it was somewhere around $40.00 at Academy.

I bought my Dad the Freeman Hunter for Christmas - it was around $30 (Amazon). When I received it in the mail, I almost didn't want to give it to him, it is a really nice knife. I read it was "Knife of the Year" in like 2003 or something. I am seriously considering getting one for myself:D You should post a pic...

I think that this knife would make a great survival knife made by Daniel KOSTER it's about the same size as a frots mora 780 and a Endura.

the ones les stroud carries. end of thread.

Well, as a Buck 119 owner for 15 years, I would disagree. The phenolic handle gets slippery and the clip point blade makes it less strong at the point. It's also too long a blade. I suppose it's a pretty decent skinning knife though. It's a good knife but far from the best.

Dannyboy, beautiful knife. Who is JCB? Is he a maker selling on here? What is his nickname?

The Practical Applications Knife (PAK) is made by one of my favorite makers, Joel C. Bolden. Joel does sell knives on the forum on rare occasion.

The PAK is made from 154CM and heat treated by D'Alton Holder. It is flat ground with a nice distal taper which makes it a first-rate cutting tool first and foremost. The cutting edge is 4-1/2" long (on this example) with a blade width of about 1-1/4". I have two of the PAK's, one with a 3/32" spine, the other is an 1/8" spine.

The PAK in the photo has a file area on the spine about 1-1/8" long that has been installed by a gunsmith's metal checkering tool at 24 lines per inch. I have found the sharp file to be an incredible useful tool in itself. Just a few light effortless passes will file off enough magnesium for fast firestarting, it easily shreds tinder in to almost dust, throws a tremendous shower of sparks from my ferro rod, and I have even installed self-nocks in primitive arrows with the spine file being just the perfect width for a bow string. The list goes on. The protruding butt of the knife is also checkered (not as sharp) for striking a ferro rod, scraping, etc. A great knife with few compromises in its size.

I used the PAK this last summer on a 400-mile backpacking trip down the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) and the knife performed admirably. One of the more practical knives in my arsenal.:)

Chuck Norris on your back is all you need. Chuck Norris roundhouse kick Mother Nature into submission, smoothing the way for a great trip. Chuck Norris kicks a tree once and the surrounding stand of trees reassembles themselves into a log cabin, complete with stove, food and beer.

chuck Norris!

Uh oh, you may have carreened this thread off topic into a fave chuck norris joke thread!

When he does pushups, Chuck Norris is actually pushing the world down, not himself up.

If you like the Shookum Bush tool you should take a look at the Fallkniven H1 (the hunting knife) with 3G steel. It is not like the F1 but more like the old sami knives.

I've not been able to understand what the large difference is between the skookum and the H1 (having handled neither). They look very similar in pictures.

Dannyboy- What pack is that? Any more pics?
