best survival knife?!

mainly my tracker2 I'm confident with either my cs oda or groman #4:D:D

Chuck Norris don't go huntin' he goes killin' :p

Me and my buddy went hunting up north last weekend and got lost for about 5 hours in the cold. I ended up having my mini manix, gerber saw and gerber multi with me.

I was about to start builting a lean to when we found the cabin...good thing too. 2 big bottles of whiskey and no glass!

Amazing, two different people post Ratmandu pics. I wouldn't say it's the best (too many variables and I'm no expert) but it's what I have in the category. Pair it with a Leatherman.

My Ratmandu was so popular with certain parties that I had to buy one for my wife, too. (Who also pairs it with a Leatherman.)

Turner made a GREAT comment! The one ON YOU when you need it! This is why I try to have redundancies and multiple knives. My last ditch item is a braided paracord bracelet with a BSA Sparklight and a Vic Classic attached. IF this is removed from me, chances are I have no clothes either! :o The Classic is small, but better than nothing at all!

Here is another good one from Kershaw.

Is the Cold Steel Master hunter full tang? How does it rate as a survival knife?

It is full tang, but not "full tang" after the guard it goes about 3/4 the width of the blade that rest of the way. I've never had troubles with mine, is you can find one in Carbon V, get it, great knife and very grippy.

One of these, or a combination of two (one being the GAK), depending on the trip.

if in survival you need to get under a car hood for parts to construct a cannon, or go cart, you can use your dumpster mutt to pry the hood off. see?

I make knives that tough in my backyard :)

100_4008.jpg

My test was slicing paper ofter being shoved thru the bonnet of the car ... I figure it would show any rough spots on the cutting edge from the exersize

not playing silly buggars either , Its not a big deal to grind out a knife able to do that easily

The only catch is , I dont have a brand name on mine to brag about , buggar it ...

If I want to brag about how tough my knives are , Im going to have to go lay out some $$ on a brand name one I guess ... who would be impressed by a knife with thats back yard made ?
:)

Me for starters. Looks like it would work properly as a knife too. Top banananananas. Only wish I had the ability to make one. 8-)

Falkniven A1 Tough, despite its size can be used for fine tasks and light. What do you want more?

We both know the knife in question goes well beyond your backyard steel creations capability. Dont we.;) A SAK can hammer into a hood.

Skam

will your SAK still slice paper after tho ? Will it be good to go after opening a door skin , and then a hood skin , several times over ? the backyard job is

the smaller of the two knives has been used to open several cars now and cut a few battery cables to prevent wrecked cars going up in flames , and still slices up paper neat as ... hasnt needed resharpening yet .

It used to be part of a yard long Starret all hard HSS power hacksaw blade in its last life to my thinking , if it is good enough to hold an edge to cut steel bar stock all day as a saw , its good enough to hold an edge and take some abuse as a knife in its current incarnation ...

however , I do realise that home made will never compare to store bought

Well you got it all figured out. When and how much are you selling them for?

Sounds like you should sell them to me.

Send one to Noss I would like to see how it takes a real torture test.

Skam

I give them away usually , to friends and family . if I had time and better machinery than just an angle grinder , I would seriously be thinking about making knives as a living instead of a hobby

I do not know Noss , but it would be interesting to see how a backyard job compares to a brandname store bought job .

Im bookmarking this thread , when I get around to making more , Ill make a spare one just for being destroyed , to see how it holds up .
