best vic for keychain?

I carry a Vic Executive on my key ring. It is all the knife I really ever need on a daily basis. It does not seem to frighten the sheeple in the least.

why??? its not a victorinox and you dont get the flat head screwdriver on the file!!!

Re: Vic vs Wenger - if one of these little keychain knives is the only knife/multi-tool you are carrying, then I agree that the Vic with the screwdriver on the file would be better. A couple of points in favor of the Wenger: the previously stated placement of the key ring attachment; I believe Wenger has a little better design for the return spring on the scissors.

Not trying to start a pissin' match over Vic vs Wenger - I have plenty of Vics and love them! ;) The Wenger EVO 81 (an Esquire with a contoured grip - see next post) is the only Wenger I have, but I do like that model better than the Vic Classic - purely due to the placement of the key ring attachment. (I always have a Vic on me with a screwdriver - but that's a story for another thread).

Wenger EVO 81. Has the contoured grip, shown with my attachments. Which end would you rather have your stuff hanging from?

......... something about a picture being worth a thousand words! (Done beating this dead horse). ;)

Rambler , basically a classic with a small ( #1) phillips driver/bottle opener . Since discovering the Rambler , I just don't understand why anyone bothers with the classic .

+3 (2 others before me) I see the Rambler as an improved Classic.

But if the weight isn't a problem, I have a Midnite Minichamp that is my favorite little "toy".

Vic Rally for me. It replaces the scissors on the Classic (it already has a small blade, after all) with the absolutely vital bottle opener!

Manager or Signature are my top picks.
It replaces the useless Toothpick on the Rambler or Classic (respectively) with a often useful but slightly thicker pen.

I tried the Minichamp and it was too fat for me. I also tried the ones with a light but the feeble red glow was pretty useless compared to a Photon II and I missed the tweezers.

I carried a Vic Classic for years but have switched to a Wenger Esquire.

I like where the blade is hinged, it's a little bit longer and the scissors are a bit better.

I can turn small phillips screws with the nail file tip and for flatheads I always use my P-38 anyway. I also use the P38 as a can opener/bottle opener so the Esquire/P38 pairing if good enough for me.

I've had the old standby, the Vic Classic, on my keys for the last 16 years. I considered replacing it with the Alox version, but I think I'd really miss the toothpick.

I love the Classic, have several of them, but for about the last 8 years or so I've been carrying a black Vic Executive. Except I don't carry it on my keyring. IMO, having it attached to a keyring makes it awkward and uncomfortable to use the knife. I just drop it in my pocket.

I use every feature on it, some more than others. One thing I do prefer about the Classic over the Exec is the flathead screwdriver tip. The orange peeler serrations sometimes make the Exec's screwdriver feel more awkward in use when turning it. But it still works fine. And for work requiring a particularly tiny blade, I prefer the Exec's small pen blade over the Classic's pen blade. IMO, it's almost the perfect pen knife.

I like that it's larger than the Classic so is easier to locate by feel in the pocket, but it's still small enough to be barely noticeable until I need it. I'm surprised at how difficult it's become to find in stores anymore.

I totally agree. In addition to allowing me to open my beers in a civilized manner ;) the Phillips head screwdriver on my Rambler ...

... comes in very handy with electronics. I have three kids and am seemingly always opening toys to fix 'em or change batteries. The Rambler rocks.

Don't forget the rally.

It's a classic with the bitdriver/bottleopener instead of the scissors.

Is the blade longer too, or just overall?

I have both the Vic Rambler and the slightly larger Wenger version (forgot the name). I prefer the tiny flat screwdriver on the Wenger for tightening eyeglass frame screws, use it more than I would the Phillips.

IIRC the Wenger Esquire blade is slightly longer than the Classic - don't have a Classic to measure, but the Esq. blade measures 1 3/4" from the end of the handle to the tip; cutting edge of blade is 1 1/2".

The classic a must have. I have one on my keychain and in an altoids tin that I carry. I also have a Victorinox Spartan on a keyring along with a firesteel, whistle and compass. The swiss army knife is a very useful tool and I just bought one as my sons first knife that will be given to him on his birthday next week.

Hi guys!
I love the Wenger Executive. The handle is 65mm(Vic Classic:58mm) and the Mainblade is 45mm(Vic Classic:40mm).The Mainblade and the nailfile open oposite the keyring, the tip of the nailfile is very usefull on phillipsscrews and the scissors are stronger than the scissors on a Classic.
Everything ist a little bit larger and stronger as on a Classic.
I love the Classics and have 45 different modells, but the Executive gives me a little bit more of everything.
For me it´s the perfect keychainknife.

Ahoi
