I have an older style MiniChamp that has all of the normal features except the Philips head/bottle opener implement. It is quite a bit thinner than the curent MiniChamp but not sacrifices any real utility

True. My experience was that the older style was easier to carry, the current one just a little too bulky for comfort. Amazing what a trivial difference in thickness can mean in the pocket. These days I don't carry either, but a Rambler instead. I don't miss the extra implements.
