best vic for keychain?

Another Rambler fan here, it holds the same advantage as the Wenger already talked about, in that both the blade and the scissors fold out away from your keys.

I'm also very fond of my Ambassador, the extra blade length over the Classic is a real winner in my book. Do be warned though, many Ambassadors don't come with a split-ring attachment so if you want one to go on your keys make sure you pick one up with the ring.

An example without the ring.

I see the blade opening on the same end as the keys in your pic.

On the Ambassador, yes you are right and it means you have to take it off your keys to use IMO which can be a PITA. On the Rambler, no. The split-ring is on the other end:

Generally a Classic on the keys - but I also like the Executive (Vic) and the Esquire (Wenger) and occasionally - a Leatherman Micra... all depends on what I'm doing!

A Vic Scribe stays on my keychain these days. After decades of Classic ownership, I almost never used the scissors, so I chose a Vic without them. The pen is extremely useful, as is the SD tipped file, however. And the tweezers are something I'm reluctant to give up, as they've saved my butt a few times.

For a small EDC, however, the Wenger Esquire beats the Vic because of the size. Especially when I mod the nail cleaner tip to function like the Vic's SD tip.

Huh. That's not something I had thought about before. I have a Classic on my keychain right now, and yes - if I wanted to cut something, I'd have to take it off my keychain (and admittedly be without the other two knifes I normally carry, but when you need it, you need it).

I think I'll switch to a Manager. The ring is on the other end, and having a pen is pretty useful. Wish I didn't have to decide between tweezers and a light, but I carry a 4Sevens Preon, so tweezers it is.

Yeah, that's another good thing about the minimalist Scribe/Escort. The ring is on the opposite end of the blade when opened.

I figured out the mod to an Esquire myself.
Ten minutes with a file and I now have an EXCELLENT screwdriver tip ;)
Basically the same shape and size as the tip on a Classic SD but I bit wider so it fits small Phillips Screws more snugly.
The knife is now much improved.

Rambler , basically a classic with a small ( #1) phillips driver/bottle opener . Since discovering the Rambler , I just don't understand why anyone bothers with the classic .

Chrios

Yet another vote for the Rambler (with a supporting nod to the Manager). Gotta have the bottle opener and extra ph tip.

Manager for me. The small philips SD is particularly useful for electronics.

Between Manager and Rambler I'd pick Manager for the pen. But I'd loose the tooth pick. Is is possible to insert a toothpick in the tweezer slot on a manager? Or is the toothpick and tweezer slots different in widths/lengths?

I had a rambler, but the split ring got snagged or something and I lost it. I don't clip my keys to my belt loop anymore either.
I replaced it with my Alox Classic SD. I'm gonna look for an Alox Rambler though after seeing this thread. I don't typically need the extra tools because I have a Compact in my pocket but the rambler is slightly more useful.

I used a signature for a while too until the ink dried up from use, now I have a pen on my compact and I carry a G2 limited with a rollerbal refill instead of the g2 one.

I carry the classic with a ballpoint pen instead of the toothpick. 3 years and it has never leaked and always worked. Pen often more useful than toothpick, and they can be replaced too. Just my $.02

edit. add pics

When you fold out the file it is large enough to hold. There's also a little spyderco and a fenix on there with a safety pin (and my keys).
