Best weapon-like folder?

Buck 279T...love this thing and have carried it for self defense for 5 years now, opens very fast, smooth lock, sharp as all hell!

The folding knife best capable for any defense situation is one you have trained excessively with. One that deployment, grips, slashing and thrusting techniques have all become second nature to you. A knife that you have practiced with and conducted various defense type scenarios with..

Of course you want good quality and simplicity..
You want a good size folder that fits your hand well.
But most of all, you have to be familiar with the knife.. TRAINING IS EVERYTHING

I am going to have to go in another direction...remember, in the sue-happy culture we live in, any good (and by good I mean dirty, low down rat) lawyer is going to paint you as some crazy, violent wack job who stockpiles "illegal weapons" to use against poor, defenseless criminals if your knife is too "tactical" looking (i.e. OTF, double edged, auto, even AO). I am going to have to say for a back up, last ditch home defense weapon, I would go with something like a plain jane spyderco, satin blade (NOT black) within your state's legal carry size (about 3.5 inches?) Something that looks more utility and less combat...sooooo, anything by ZT is definitely out!

Only requirement is that blade must be less than 4"

Which folder do you think best represents the concept of backup weapon for a home-defense scenario?

Why in God's name would you limit yourself to 4 inches or a folder in the house?
I don't get it.

for the house you could have a damn samurai sword, I mean you would probably be better off with a ball bat than a 4 inch folder, if home defense is the use, at my house your wading through 3 dogs 6.8 psd a .357 magnum, if you get through all that I might need to grab one of my knives.

Exactly.
In the home many options are possible and legal.

the purpose for my question is not to suggest that a 4" folding knife is the preferred armament for home defense. Rather, i want to find a certain purpose-specific 4" folder for my collection.

Conceivably one would use a folder of this description as a backup to a shotgun or handgun in the home.

spyderco superhawk, good retention and full cutting power. It also has a strong
compression lock with good piercing potential because the blade isn't to
curved.

Nothing like a knife that comes with a card telling you NOT to use it for general utility. :p

The best home defender folder is an under-folder AK-47. Dead reliable. Expect collateral damage.

Seriously, a 'tacticool' knife of 4" or less for home defense? You could force anything into duty - but why a folder? A good fb with a decent finger guard - even a Buck 192 Vanguard - would be better - no worry about deploying the blade - or locking it out. Of course, if you just want another knife for the collection, then - I understand completely especially if it's a Buck Custom Shop 110 - nice one, babakanoosh45!

Stainz

PS My vast firepower includes a couple of revolvers for HD duty... typical teacher, do as I say - not as I do!

In my house they'd already be choped to chuinks with a bowie before I could pull out the folder to use on em.

oh, I see. there aren't any kitchen knives in your house.

I have plenty that I would trust:
Spyderco Military
Spyderco Paramilitary
Benchmade 42 (slightly bigger than 4")
Large Sebenza 21
Gold Class Grip
Stretch 2 zdp/cf
Manix 2 cts-xhp
...to name a few

For HD I'd probably go with my Ka-bar Black Fighter, perhaps Spyderco Warrior, Scrapyard Regulator, any of my Busse's but probably Ka-Bar because I wouldn't be devastated if it was taken for evidence.

My problem with the Spyderco Civilian is you can't stab with it. It's great for slashing someone's face open, but I could do that with other knives so why limit yourself. I think when the Civilian was designed for whatever LE agency, its purpose was to slash and run.
