Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

If it's any consolation GT, I did have to download the pic so I could zoom in. Horn is a lot more resilient than bone I think, but that's a nasty fall :(
...
Sure, that's some consolation, Jack! ;) It was indeed a nasty fall for which I can only blame myself, but I think if I blacken the two small chipped areas, fill them with a tiny bit of epoxy, and smooth off, most of the damage will be "disguised". I'm much more concerned about horn shrinkage that seems to have begun about a month ago! :(

Here's a beverage and some food from this weekend past:

Sorry mate! Yes, I once fumbled a bone-handled knife which taking a pic, and chipped it. I doubt it fell more than three feet :( You can dye the epoxy also, and even without dye it usually goes brown after some time, so I imagine it will repair pretty well  That is very concerning about the shrinkage though  There's good advice in the Lambsfoot thread

The four I've had have each had their own style, three light, one darker. I've not had their Porter yet, but out of the four I've had; Seven Hills, Five Rivers, Crucible Best, and Blanco Blonde, my favourites were Seven Hills, a hoppy pale ale, and Crucible Best, which is an excellent classic Yorkshire ale. Five Rivers, a pale ale, was smooth, but lacked bite I thought, a little bland. Blanco Blond I found a little sweet for my palate, nice enough, but I moved on to another ale. Here's a link to the company's beers: http://www.sheffieldbrewery.com/beers/ I'm not sure if many will be familar with the word 'Blanco', but it was a powder, made up into a paste, and used to treat military webbing and equipment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanco_(compound)). I hadn't known it was made in Sheffield, but the Sheffield Brewery Co are based in the old Blanco factory, next to the River Don. Inevitably, there's a cutlery connection: https://www.blancoandbull.com/the-joseph-pickering-sons-story/

I had a bit of a session with a mate yesterday, starting off with the Blanco Blonde ;)

As well as trying this delicious Japanese whiskey :)

japan_nik10.jpg

Outstanding Jack  thanks for all the links and info on the Sheffield Brewery offerings. Interesting stuff and I enjoy that everything in Sheffield is connected in some way to cutlery:cool:

I have never tried that specific Nikka Whisky but have a tried a Nikka coffee grain Whisky which I thought was excellent.

One of my favorite Whiskies about ten years ago was 18 year Yamazaki, which is a similar Japanese spin on scotch and also a single malt. It used to be very reasonable ( under $100) and was really exceptional stuff. Apparently people caught on and it’s now around $300.... needless to say it’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed it.

My understanding was that only a whisky produced in Scotland can be labeled “Scotch” and the yamazaki and others like it are simply called single malt or whisky because of their country of origin.

Had a very nice picture of the Lambsfoot and an Imperial Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout from the weekend that’s supposed to go right here, but uploading images is proving incredibly difficult.

W:eek:W, donn donn , what's the ABV (or should I ask about "sugar by volume") for that concoction??;)

LOL! Oh I don't know 5K. Probably a weeks worth at least, but I didn't care as I'd been in this all day:

(the smaller number on the bottom is the windchill; it had actually warmed up a little :D)
and was trying to warm up whilst waiting for my train home

I'll just put this here as I think Jack would like to see it. This was on the same walk. If you look closely you'll see the ice climbers at the bottom. That is Kinder Downfall waterfall, on 'Kinder Scout' a mountain in Derbyshire.

And to keep things on track this is what I had on my birthday last Thursday but didn't have a chance to post.

A pleasure my friend :) I have only had a few Japanese whiskies, but I have enjoyed every single one I've tasted :) Yes indeed, only whisky from Scotland can be legally sold as Scottish Whisky (Scotch) within the European Union. I've had a few problems uploading images myself over the past couple of days, but it seems better today

Thanks for thinking of me Donn, those are superb pics, what a great place to be on a day like that, and how lucky those climbers are to be able to climb on ice so far south. Fantastic shot of Kinder Downfall  A very Happy Birthday my friend, and I hope you have many more

After my trip to Sheffield today, I called in for a pint or three of this unfined Pale from Nomad Brewery :) It went down well

Years ago I saw on 60 Minutes that someone was selling Scottish peaty water to the Japanese in aid of their efforts to counterfeit Scotch. Experts couldn't tell the difference.

Happy belated birthday donn!!! Thanks for sharing those pictures, they are awesome

Thanks chaps. 45 is no different to 44 as far as I can tell.....yet.... :D:thumbsup:
Jack hope you enjoyed ya pint and Seabrooks are the best aren't they
Those climbers appeared to be just setting up actually. It was about an hour before sunset proper and as you know Kinder Downfall faces west. I'm assuming they were waiting for the temp to drop REALLY low before they started climbing. I'm assuming they'd of had some real good lighting setups to ice climb in the dark

This is a good Double IPA by Revision out of Reno, Nevada.

Another one...

Crazy fruity IPA...not in a bad way. But not what I expected.

The yellow on the covers of this match the color of this IPA

Great Lineup! Fingers crossed for you in the consolation draw brother-

Recently got in on the three can release from MT. This one is the most interesting of the bunch. The day of the release it was just hoppy and I was unimpressed but now all the advertised flavors are coming together. Lambsfoot on duty per the norm, if you’ve never tried this pattern it gets my highest reccomendation. Give it a shot and you won’t regret it.

SUPER COMPILER
We've dubbed this collaboration with our friends at Civil Society Brewing a Rosé IPA, brewed with Citra, Experimental Hop 9326, Huell Melon hops, with grenache grape must, dragon fruit, guava, & hibiscus. The glorious result is a fruity, rosy enigma that will lift your tastebuds to dizzying new heights. Pinkies up.
ABV: 7.5%

........

Not bad by any means but not one I’d drink regularly. It’s changed a lot from a week ago and this is the last one, no idea how it’d be In another few weeks or more.

As for the Lambsfoot it’s functional and extremely tough. My original was carried for over a year every day and sentenced to hard labor in some pretty harsh conditions, handled it like a champ .
