Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Looks like you had a great day Jack. I was thinking of going myself but couldn't be bothered with all the train problems :thumbsdown:

A rather non-descript golden ale tonight.

Tell me more about that knife Donn?
Bexfield?

It's a rather old A.Wright & Son Barlow with I think the standard A.Wright rosewood covers and carbon blade and brass liners.
They still make Barlows but I don't think they have the embossed writing on them anymore. And I think Wrights have altered the design and started using rounded bolsters on their Barlows with horn or stag covers.
Several years back a lot of people didn't rate Wrights saying they had mediocre QC, but I've this and a large lambsfoot that are both over 10 years old and they are both solid knives
Heres a (slightly) better shot from my Imgur library.

I know what you mean mate! o_O I thought I might have seen you there. At one point, I heard a bloke shout "David...", and I though, 'Could it be?'! :D I couldn't see who was beiing shouted though! :D Maybe next year :)

Starting the evening off with a couple of heavy hitters. Both of these breweries are local to my town.

Those look right up my street Dylan! :)

A crisp, refreshing lager from the Forrest Brewing Co in the Otway Ranges.

I asked them about that, and they said their customers were asking for rounded bolsters. They still make a few with flat bolsters though. Standard covers are Rosewood, Horn, and Stag

Thanks Donn.
I have its twin brother stamped Bexfield.

Interesting Meako, you'll have to post a pic of that when you've the time
A fine steak and English mustard washed down with a nice grape juice  Thats a cracking evening right there :D

LOL! No it wouldn't of been me. I've given up trying to herd cats and now only go to beer festivals on my own. I take my book perch in a corner and get pleasantly sozzled. :D:thumbsup:
Aye I was looking at the round bolstered barlows when I bought my last lambsfoot, and I recall you posted a picture of some a good few weeks ago. I actually prefer the rounded bolsters; I'll pick one up later in the year me thinks.

This will impress you guys:

We were discussing corkscrews elsewhere earlier. I like the lever type, that spares you the clamping the bottle between your legs and performing indecorous antics.

What a great collection  Especially the wooden one at the bottom and the one that looks like an orange flashlight.

Thanks.
The orange one is Swiss, with twin screws. I never remember to try it. I haven't actually used the big vine-handled one either. I bought that because my parents had one like it given to them by a French chum who was awarded the Legion d'Honeur for his work in the resistance in WWII.

Then of course there is the high tech vacuum cork removers that gently eases the cork out so as not to bruise the scrumptious wine in a Nigella Lawsonish tantalising but forbiddingly expensive uncorking ceremony.

Herding cats:D:D:D.
I know excactly what you mean.
I drove a minibus containing the enthusiasts from The Illawarra Brewing Company from North Wollongong to the Homebush Bay showgrounds in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. GABS Great Australian Beer Spectacular. They were half cut by the time we arrived and then went about sampling the weird n wonderful array of beers.
By the end of the session it was fairly messy. I managed to herd the cats back on the bus .In addition we now had a couple of kids that belonged to the group:eek:o_O and a drunken Scotsman from Bulli that no body seemed to know but had been offered a lift home in an act of misguided bonhomie by one of the other passengers.
Not even halfway home I was requested to stop the bus so this guy could be jettisoned.
He was completely maggoted and the conversation had been getting inappropriate with kids on board. He was also groping one of the women uninvited. At one point he decided he needed the toilet and openef the door while we were waiting at the traffic lights and got out. From then on he was being 'told' where he was going and how.
To the railway station. He wanted to fight me.A couple of the guys manhandled him out of the bus.He wanted to fight them.
He was not of this world.
I havent lost my temper for a long time but this guy was McPeanutbrain.I was mcready to get mcout and mcgive him a mcthickear.
He vanished into the train station.Next stop the bottle shop for more supplies on the long haul back to the gong.
Rule 1 no stowaways.

When I get home from a hot day nothing fixes me like a glass of POM pomegranate juice with an ice cube or two. The other day I noticed how my "big to do about nothing" Boker Stockman in Smooth Red Bone is the same color as the juice. I took this photo a week ago but just noticed this thread so here goes.

Yes, I've played 'Dad' way too many times myself! :D Thursday afternoon was pretty quiet, suited me :) I think they look OK, I just wish they'd either extend the bolster a bit or re-name it! :D ;)

I just bought a cookbook because she was smirking at me over a pile of tomatoes on the cover.
