Last one of the night...summer is usually "lighter" beers. But I went with this Porter that was given to me as a birthday present. Suppppper good!

So a little trip around some pubs near the city of Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands yesterday.
First, the Beacon Hotel, Sedgley. Home to the Sarah Hughes Brewery.

Where I enjoyed, amongst other things, several pints of their Ruby Mild. 6%. Amongst England's real ale afficianados this is held in such high regard people discuss it in hushed tones with an air of awe the reverence... :D

A beautiful pub, unchanged in over 100 years. The back "Smoke Room".

Then onto The Britannia Inn, about half-an-hours walk away. A Batham's Brewery house and again another pub unchanged in over a century.

Bathams only brew two beers (a third in winter). Apparently, they sell so much of their Best Bitter (4.3%) there one of the few breweries in the UK to still deliver it in 54 gallon Hogshead casks.

You'll notice the arrangement on the back wall. Very rare nowadays, but the beer engines are lined up against the wall with there being no bar. There is a main bar and these pumps are still used at the weekends.
And then my final pub as I sadly had to go home :(
The Great Western, located directly behind Wolverhampton railway station. A Holden's Brewery house with an excellent selection of ales. A fabulous traditional English boozer

And a pint of Holden's Mild 3.7% to wash down the obligatory pork scratchings.:D:thumbsup:

If ever you end up in the West Midlands I can highly recommend it for historic English pubs and real ales. I barely scratched the surface of the pubs round there :(

David, Thank you for doing a fantastic tour of these pubs! My wife and I have been looking at a trip to Britain, hopefully, next June.

This kind of post is my favorite! These buildings and especially the interiors of the pubs are fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for a fantastic tour David, those pubs have some great character :)

I’ve been away for far too long to comment on everything I’d like to, but there are a few posts I couldn’t let pass by....

Trying some European beers...
Loving Kolsch at the minute. Super easy summer beer for after football practice when the field temperature is 154 degrees!

When the heat never ends beer seems like the oasis you need :D Mind you, Cider can be OK for this too;)

I haven’t been a big fan of the American-brewed Kölsch-style ales I’ve tried, but, Taylor and Will, you’ve convinced me that I need to seek out an authentic Kölsch. I’ll get on that. ;)

Had some tequila left from International Tequila Day and didn't feel like having a margarita. So, the JK Pocket Chef came out to thinly slice some jalapeno to throw into a mix of mango pineapple juice and tequila. My first time trying this drink, and I dig it!

Excuse the dirty glass.

Dagnabit, there you go again making me drool over both your drink and your Pocket Chef. Do you deliver? ;) :D

David, I always enjoy your pub posts and stories of Real Ale. Thank you so much for posting them!

As for me, I’m enjoying a summery IPA that I hadn’t tried before:
