Interesting report, Jer. I haven't tried the Bell's Christmas Ale, but the label calls the contents "Scotch Ale". For the right price, I enjoy Founders Dirty Bastard, also Scotch Ale, and never noticed a sugar and spice build-up.My potation station has been out of Bell's Two-hearted. They may have switched it for the season with Bell's Christmas Ale. As one of our dedicated providers said, the Xmas ale tastes like a Xmas candle. The sugar and spices build up on the back of your tongue.
They still have Bell's Half-hearted, but that's too malty for my taste.
So anyway, thank heavens for Big Lakes' amber ale (Holland, Michigan).
Bell's also have an amber ale. Does it taste noticeably different than Big Lakes' amber ale? (I haven't tried either of them.)
