Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Dylan, do you know the mashbill on that Stouted Whiskey, or at least what grains were used? Sounds/looks very interesting!

That's a really good question, Jeff, and one that I do not have an answer to. As far as I have been able to find, they haven't disclosed their mash bill on that particular whiskey.

I will say that it is quite good and if you are fond of stout ales and whiskey, you will find this one to be right up your alley.

This quote sums up what I have found regarding their process on this one:
The story behind this whiskey starts with Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout, a 14.4% ABV beer aged in barrels used in making the Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey. While that process is ongoing, Rogue had a malt whiskey made with Rogue’s Dare and Risk proprietary malts, plus Crystal 15 malt, aging in new oak barrels charred to level 4 for one year. That primary maturation done, they transferred the whiskey to the Rolling Thunder barrels.

By now those barrels were twice-used (and thus little more than wooden, breathable storage containers), but soaked with some pretty strong, whiskey barrel-aged stout. Rogue aged the whiskey in those barrels for two years of further maturation (given that stage two lasted twice as long as stage one, calling it “secondary maturation” or “finishing” feels wrong), for what was clearly intended to create a beer barrel-forward flavor profile.

17 years ago, the Better Half and I rode my moto down Hwy 101/1 from Vancouver Island (where we got married) to Santa Barbara on our honeymoon. We stopped in at the Rogue brewery in Newport and hit their tasting room, which was nothing fancy at the time - you had to walk through the working brewery and up some wooden stairs to a little room with a few seats. It was a memorable night to say the least (and not entirely fit to print here....😉).

We have decided we are heading back there this summer on a road trip across OR and a bit of Rogue pilgrimage. I'm curious to see how it's changed over the years and now I'm curious to try their whiskey as well!

I love the artwork on that beer, José! I'd like to find that brand somewhere so I could get a bottle cap!:thumbsup::cool:

Love Spotted Cow on draft. It’s very tasty, but I can’t deny, it’s forbidden fruit… so that always makes it tastier. 🍺😄

I've heard of that beer, but have never had any, Todd!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Found this at the German deli
That imported double bock appeals to me!:cool::thumbsup:

I don't get to post in this thread very often...
This six pack is lasting me a while. Down to my last one.
You inspired me, John.:cool::thumbsup: I found a last Sam Adams Octoberfest in the fridge and had it on Sunday. But I drink a beer almost every day (and sometimes 2 on Saturday or Sunday), and I usually start stockpiling Oktoberfest brews in August, September, and October so that I can enjoy them through the winter holidays. I think I'm down to my last 12-pack of Founders Oktoberfest.

It’s a nice beer Gary, not a Porter or Stout by any means, just a nice easy drinking cloudy ale. 😊
Whoa, John beat me to it, but that’s a nice looking knife, and some pretty hefty beer Smithhammer. 😎👍

I didn't even know that #55 came in a Spear Blade... Love it! 🤠

I'm not sure how many were made, but it seems like it was a pretty limited version. That #55 was my first GEC, purchase back in 2013, and still one of my faves.
