Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

An old fashioned seemed like the appropriate first beverage with this one.

Lots of great beverages folks :)

Jack, that orange Bull Nose looks like just the ticket for a night on the town when there's a chance that your knife might become difficult to locate due to extenuating circumstances!!

This Oktoberfest hasn't been available for several weeks, but I wisely stockpiled some while it was on the shelves, so I still have a few bottles left to savor for the current holidays! :p

Thanks GT :D  That looks like a tasty brew, and what a great-looking knife

Excellent choice Paul, I've been sampling their beers since they first started brewing

A blacksmith friend of mine got one of his mates to forge me this hefty bottle-opener at the Kelham Island Christmas Fair. Weighs a ton, works like a charm! :D

Few other random beer pics from over Christmas :)

StoneBeard, I'm glad you liked the gin. It's one of my favorites. Your G&T looks incredibly refreshing and that TC looks like the perfect accompaniment. In fact, I think you've created an instant classic: the G&T&TC. :D

These two favorites helped get Christmas Eve off to a good start:

Happy Christmas Eve everyone. I hope everyone has a great day leading to a joyous Christmas tomorrow.

From last night, too. Cranberry rum punch was our Christmas Eve cocktail.

Thanks Greg. Your Christmas rum punch cocktail looks like a tasty festive drink and goes nicely with that yellow heart. How did you like the finished drink? Thanks for the recipe link. I'd have to say that the old fashion and your new peach seed TC make a fine combo. Great looking knife, glad you were able to pick one up

That's one on my to drink list

Loving these "east coast" hazy IPA's. This one is also a must try.

It's an extremely solid "juicy" IPA, you will not be disappointed. I also was able to try a can of "blowin' up the spot" the collaboration Monkish did with Other Half Brewing Co. If you get an opportunity definitely give that one a try as well. Nice shot of your BSK and IPA glass. I also really like Orderville and find I'm drifting more towards the East coast style IPA's these days

Well, my Yuengling Lager is kinda' pedestrian compared to most beverages here, but I won't give it up. One of my favorite times of the day is when me & my two labs sit quietly on the back porch at night & have two Lagers before bed. It doesn't matter if it's 100 degrees, or if there's a raging blizzard going on & -10F. It's the perfect ending to every day.

I really enjoy Yuengling and used to keep it in my fridge at all times when I lived in VA. If they distributed to the west coast I'd have kept that trend up indefinitely. It's a good easy drinker that I have always enjoyed. Nice Ebony BSK:thumbup:

boy, i've been trying to get a good picture in my house, and i just cannot. but just imagine what it would look like to drink a Heady Topper with a GEC 42 in green bone. yeah, it's pretty good.

all the while, cooking dirty rice, but with venison! good golly, i live a fortunate life.

cheers!

EDIT: ok, ok. not posting pics? what am i thinking?

Good to have you back Jack, hope you had a nice trip. That is one serious opener and a really cool gift. Anything worth doing is worth over doing and that goes double for both beverages and blades! Liking the artwork on those beers, cool to see both the classic Marshall amp and Eddie the Head in his red coat. How were the brews? Nice to see your IXL, really like that one

Thanks my friend, the trip was good :) I even got to visit one of my favourite pubs, The Black Horse in Whitby ;) Here's a pic I took on an earlier visit (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Knife-Heading-For-The-Coast-(more-at-post-41))

Both the Marshall and Trooper beers are made by Robinsons, a long-standing British brewer. Like their draught beers, the bottles weren't anything worth seeking out to be honest. The Marshall tasted a bit thin, and while the Trooper was more flavoursome, there are better beers to be had in that style I think - and without a label that frightens the kids! :D They were the result of a last minute supermarket stock-up, as was the Punk IPA, which I'm sure you're familiar with :)

Hope everyone has a great New Year's Eve - and Happy New Year to our Antipodean brethren ;)

Thanks, Jack. That Mercator could have easily been a contender for Knife of 2016 if I had allowed myself to carry it more. A far better knife than I was expecting it to be! (Or maybe, more accurately, a knife I ended up liking far more than I thought I would!)

That bottle-opener has some serious gravitas!! You can give up your gym membership; you'll get all the strength training you need carrying that chunk of steel around! :D

I wonder if this photo fits in this thread?

I live in Northern California, I have yet to find any of the Juicy IPA's by Monkish. I keep taking trips to my local Total Wine and More with no luck!

That has all the hallmarks of a Knife of the Year GT :) I liked the choice you made though :)

Thanks :) Gym membership... Sorry, you had me there for a moment, I'm fair wearing that gym out! ;) :o :D

That looks like a great product! :D

Just as well I put the camera away for New Year's Eve, some of the pics might have been a bit...er...grainy  :D I'm just finishing off a bottle of LBV port with a pal :)

A friend bought me this fancy (Made in Sheffield) beverage glass for Christmas :) It's got a nice weight to it, particularly when holding a Rusty Nail! ;) :D

Monkish is still a relatively small brewery with no distribution( yet). They have a tiny canning line and once a month or so will can a limited number( whatever they can handle) and sell them out of the store front that day. From what I've seen it's usually a collaboration. They've got a really strong following because they make good stuff, but just haven't grown to a distribution level yet. A good friend of mine lives around the corner from the brewery and snags me some cans or a bottle when he can then mails them to me. Unfortunately there's a similar phenomenon to limited knife SFO's where a can of their beer sells for a large markup on the secondary market. Not to say it can't be found it's just limited currently. How was that juicy Loam IPA you got locally and the listen up double? Your #77 is looking good, definitely one of my favorite knives.

Some NYE IPA,

Solid picture Viking. I've enjoyed your posts here and in other threads. You've definitely got your outdoor craft dialed in. Given multiple options I would choose to ring in the new year as you did, I'd consider that the good life. Believe it or not I have never owned an Opinel and considering their price point and value I'd say I'm well over due. Seems the consensus is somewhere between the #6 and the #9 from most folks who carry them often. What's your preference?

Nice glass Jack ( and of course Lambsfoot ) I will admit that I don't think I have ever had a rusty nail or Drambuie. Do you usually make yours with Irish Whiskey? My quick search listed scotch as the primary.

Great picture :thumbup:The (what I think is )box elder burl and copper look outstanding! The only knife I can make out for certain is the Vic. Who makes the other fixed blades pictured?

StoneBeard, the Loam was great. The New Glory Listen Up is a smooth double IPA, it was 8% and I will definitely get more of it on the next release.

There are a lot of new brewers in the Sacramento region that are like Monkish and do small releases. Two of my favorites of these small breweries right now are Moonraker and New Glory. Moonraker is doing a lot of the juice bomb or east coast IPA's while New Glory does a lot of traditional west coast styles.

I had an epic weekend in the Adirondacks. There were so many great IPA's, it's impossible to choose a favorite.
