Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Enjoying the beer discussion gents :)

Nice glass Jack ( and of course Lambsfoot ) I will admit that I don't think I have ever had a rusty nail or Drambuie. Do you usually make yours with Irish Whiskey? My quick search listed scotch as the primary.

Thanks my friend. Drambuie is a sweet, thick whisky liqueur, and I think it would be a bit of waste to mix it with the finest Scottish malts, or anything which is very peaty or smokey, so it depends what I happen to have in the house. I don't drink Rusty Nails too often, generally reserving them for special occasions, but I've often used Jameson's in the past (I like mine 2/3 whisky to 1/3 Drambuie, but they're usually mixed 50/50). I've certainly had plenty with Scotch too though, but usually I'd plump for a blended whisky or perhaps something from Speyside. I guess I should experiment a little! ;) :D I dare say that there may well be an Irish equivalent of Drambuie too, for an All-Irish Rusty Nail :)

Monkish is still a relatively small brewery with no distribution( yet). They have a tiny canning line and once a month or so will can a limited number( whatever they can handle) and sell them out of the store front that day. From what I've seen it's usually a collaboration. They've got a really strong following because they make good stuff, but just haven't grown to a distribution level yet. A good friend of mine lives around the corner from the brewery and snags me some cans or a bottle when he can then mails them to me. Unfortunately there's a similar phenomenon to limited knife SFO's where a can of their beer sells for a large markup on the secondary market. Not to say it can't be found it's just limited currently. How was that juicy Loam IPA you got locally and the listen up double? Your #77 is looking good, definitely one of my favorite knives.

Solid picture Viking. I've enjoyed your posts here and in other threads. You've definitely got your outdoor craft dialed in. Given multiple options I would choose to ring in the new year as you did, I'd consider that the good life. Believe it or not I have never owned an Opinel and considering their price point and value I'd say I'm well over due. Seems the consensus is somewhere between the #6 and the #9 from most folks who carry them often. What's your preference?

Great picture :thumbup:The (what I think is )box elder burl and copper look outstanding! The only knife I can make out for certain is the Vic. Who makes the other fixed blades pictured?

Not sure I'm the person to ask.

I am fairly new to Opinels as well. The #7 in the picture and I just finished up a 30 day one knife challenge on another site. So it got some serious use from me in December. I am typically not a folder guy. But I came away very impressed.

I liked it enough to order the #8 and #9. As you pointed out, they are pretty reasonable.

I like the 7 because of the oak and the back story of the Ship. But I think the #8 will contend for my favorite. Perhaps even the #8 Garden version with the drop point at some point down the road.

The Irish "equivalent" of Drambuie is "Irish Mist". However, they both have unique tastes.
Both are whisky modified with honey. But each has other flavors also, and they taste different. Much more different than the difference in the whiskies used in making them.

Thanks for the info Frank, I'll give that a try at some point

- on the tin it says, "Inspired by the unfiltered kellerbiers of Franconia, fused with contemporary Anglo-American brewing practices"

And it is utterly delightful, like a grass roots Leffe...

Got me a little merlot, red diamond. Cheap stuff but palatable. My 81 went with me to work today. Patina has a nice blue color to it. Sitting here with gumbo on the stove and waiting for the kids to get off the bus. Ready for the pregnant wife to get home. I miss her when she's not home with me.

Yeah yeah, I need to take the Christmas lights down. It's been hectic lately lol

It's been too long since I've checked in on this thread. Wonderful stuff, everyone! I hope your 2017 is off to a good start.

I went to the store looking for Saisan Dupont and discovered their holiday saison. It's lovely.
