Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Looks good. Got some Ardbeg Corryvrecken for Father's Day and had some last night. Love the single malts.
Thanks Vince, I was thinking of opening a bottle of Lagavulin while Merle is here, but with the luck I've had this past fortnight, I'd probably drop the bottle! ;) Congratulations on the Corryvrecken buddy
Can't beat that Father's Day activity with a stick!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I spent the past 11 days in Minnesota, visiting our daughter for a few days at the start and at the end of our trip. (In fact she drove back to Michigan with us yesterday and will visit some friends before flying back to Minneapolis Thursday evening.) When we returned to her place after spending several days in St. Cloud last week, she presented me with some Black Butte Porter. I didn't take any photos (and I forgot to take the last couple of cans back home with me :(), but here's an old photo of a bottle of the same beer (with a Victorinox Farmer):

And here's a pic of the knife my daughter got me for Father's Day at an antique mall a week ago. It's a Sabre Hong Kong small stockman (with Mississippi River in St. Cloud MN in background):

On my wife’s birthday I’m going with a PBR. Her beer of choice when we first started dating
Happy Birthday to your wife Jon :) Cool zippo! :D

Hope you had a great trip Gary :)
Thanks, Jack. :) It was very enjoyable, although my back doesn't handle long car trips very well any more, especially if I'm driving. Since we spent many nights in hotels and ate dinner in various restaurants most evenings, I ended up trying quite a variety of beers that I'd never had before, and enjoyed almost all of them. Here's a "too-late" photo from an Irish pub/grill in St. Cloud MN that's a poor visual record of the pleasant beverage and meal I had there. It included the glass pictured, filled with George Hunter Stout from Castle Danger Brewing, and a "crock" of hearty and tasty "Guinness beef stew". My recently-purchased Chinese Schrade 858OTB Lumberjack with sawcut bone covers was not needed for the meal.

Rye whiskey is thin on the ground in my neck o the woods...Today I ventured forth to Batemans Bay...internet/phone company debacle....ho hum...anyway found this Aussie Rye at the big supermarket bottlo...i had small taste before dinner and gotta say... smoother than an Aussie chat up line...er...well... smooth anyway.

The Tale of Grandad Brown and The Waterford.
Are you all sitting comfortably?
Good then I will begin...
Many moons ago I visited my Grandparents at their home in Coffs Harbour NSW north coast. Both passed away years ago...so i feel like they can"t get me for telling the story.
My Grandfather was a WW2 veteran RAF...I was a young man just joined the fire brigade and I know he was very proud of me....having lost their own son my uncle at age 20 due to lifelong health problems.
I was offered the customary beer when I arrived...Grandad Brown liked a drink...he poured it into an amazing glass goblet shaped like a horn of plenty adorned with bacchanalian vines and fruits...
As we sat enjoying the the afternoon and the beer... Nana ....who was like an eagle eyed superhawk whose beak had been fashioned by the gods into a kind of diplomatic sledgehammer...asked me what I wanted??? when we "go" ???
what IS she talking about?
Your sister has her eye on the table....its Ercol..solid oak from England.....!
Grandad meanwhile sat sipping beer and poured us another...
OK so when you die you want me to claim some of your stuff? OK well I dont want to think about that to be honest so I'll just take this attractive beer glass that I had in my hand .
I felt like a baby antelope taking a sip from the water with 2 saltwater crocs silently moving in for the kill.
Grandad arced up straightaway...YOURE NOT HAVING THAT!! Thats Waterford Crystal....Hes not getting the Waterford!! Anyone would think I'd just killed the pope.
I was like er whatever...probably break it or lose it anyway.
All was well and time went on...After he croaked Nana was moved back to Sydney to be closer to the family...we always kept in touch and I visited her regularly. Some years later I visited her in her new place and she had a box of junk she was chucking out....OOH said she ..heres those glasses...Your grandad wanted you to have them....OH Yeah The Waterfords....How wonderful...there were two glass horns of plenty with the vines and fruits...Magnificent.
He was laughing his head off up there somewhere.
Does Waterford Crystal have made In China moulded into the base?

Great story, meako meako !🤓 Reminds me that I've reached an age where I should start doing some polling to see if anybody is interested in having any of my worldly possessions after I'm gone, physically or mentally.

Just checking in to report that I still enjoy Killian's quite regularly as my beverage with supper. (And even though it has a twist-off cap, I usually use a bottle opener to demonstrate my savoir faire. ;))
