Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

During my annual vacation in August, I usually find my first Oktoberfest beers of the year in the town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where we stay. This year was no exception! I found these two last week (although when I returned home and got groceries earlier this week, no sign of Oktoberfest choices in my local store yet).

Mike I'm not afraid to be dumb. What is this drink? It looks pretty scary.
It’s an erva mate, finer cut version of yerba mate. South American drink. The leaves stay in the cup, and you keep refilling with hot (or sometimes cold) water. Straw has a filter on it to stop you from getting a mouthful of the leaves. It is caffeinated, so an alternative to coffee or tea. Also a very social drink meant for sharing with others.

CelloDan CelloDan got me interested in trying yerba mate a while back, and I fell right down the rabbit hole. It’s good stuff 🧉 :)

I’m sorry Todd I could close like Bruce Sutter today
I'll do a variation of an old Ty Cobb joke.
Jon, that's really not saying much, since Sutter today is 69 years old and doesn't have his best stuff anymore! 🤓
(He's almost exactly one year younger than me.)

I shopped for groceries this morning, and was happy to see that the store had lots of Oktoberfest selections today after having nothing last week. But with supper tonight I had this (old photo - I bought a 12-pack of cans today and had one tonight):

My proof reading skills are awful. I couldn’t close today, but I do suppose a 69 year old Sutter would have a hard time these days

Jon, thanks for the memory lane reverie. I used to work at a hunting/fishing store in St. Louis County and Bruce was a regular customer of mine. A more down to earth, regular guy you won't find anywhere. And at his best, he was as unhittable as any pitcher ever.

That is too cool! I love hearing stories like that. I have a Ken Boyer card coming in the mail. I wish I could have watched him play.
