Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Ah, it is Friday! I got a little over zealous with my pour. Oh well, the bottle is empty at least...

Another favorite thread that I've almost ignored for a week. :(

A splendid multinational collection, GT! Glad to see your new A. Wright Lambsfoot again.
...
Belated thanks for the kind words, Greg! :)

Sippin' and whittlin'.

I hope everyone else is having an equally enjoyable weekend. Cheers!

This evening I'm enjoying a new-to-me porter from Heretic while relaxing in the backyard with a whittling project.

Kinda cool to see the "time-lapse photography" documenting of your cowboy, Greg!:cool: I remember reading in some thread that working on his collar (or kerchief or whatever clothes near his neck) almost resulted in decapitation!;) Now when I see him, I think of a gunfighter called the "Pencil-Neck Kid", and can imagine how the derogatory comments of cruel individuals could have pushed him into his life lived by the gun! :p
That Heretic Porter looks like a brew I'd enjoy. Chocolate and Hazelnuts are the main ingredients in Nutella, right?

My favorite ball team paired up with one of my favorite breweries killer combo
Great knife, and having an MLB team's logo on a beer can is WAY cool!:cool:

Campout Porter won out. A great beer w/ a great knife added by family equals a perfect day.

The ironwood covers on your knife are spectacular, Brett!:thumbsup: And I totally support your choice of porter! :D

Spent a good part of the day out working in the yard. A nice cold Pilsner hit the spot. Shared it with my Halfrich Rounder. Well not really. The Rounder got to watch me drink it.

Looks like very pleasant property you maintain there, Gary!:cool: I think you're more a stainless guy, but do you happen to know if "sharing a beer" with a carbon steel blade affects patina in a predictable way? I think I need to carry out some experiments! (My current go-to method for corrosion-protecting a new carbon steel blade via fairly uniform patina is dipping the blade into the "juice" in a jar of hot pepper rings and letting it set for a couple of minutes before washing and drying.)

Regarding the Craftsman, good eyes! It's either Schrade or Ulster's take on the Camillus 72 pattern. I've read different accounts of who made them, perhaps they both did at different times.

Here's a side-by-side comparison with my BSA version of the Camillus 72:

If you're curious about the history of the pattern and its variations, I highly recommend this post. Lots of great info there.
Thanks for the informative link, Greg!:thumbsup:

Great pair of knives, donn, and I'll bet I'd enjoy that imperial Russian stout, too!:cool::thumbsup: Unfortunately, the 12% ABV would probably do me in with a single bottle!:rolleyes:

This one kicked my butt last night. It's like drinking a boilermaker in a bottle. Absurdly potent beer. And a Camilkus C4.

As usual, Buzz, superb scout on your person! Founders is brewed in my town, and I hadn't even heard of Doom until your post! I've got to get out more! :D

Great beer Buzz, my local Pourhouse just put it on tap. I really like Founders, it just recently came available in MT, just put the All Day IPA on tap at home.

Smoking ribs today,

Bombshell of a Böker, Kris!:thumbsup: Am I reading correctly that you can pick up a keg of All Day IPA for home use? I didn't realize that!

Here's something I had yesterday (even though the pic was taken a couple of weeks ago):

All Day IPA is one of my favorites. It goes down so easily on a hot day.

And that Boker is off the charts beautiful!!!!

Getting' my summer on today, while I grill up some steaks. On infinite repeat these days is the Camillus C4 saw scout. The beer is Sun Block IPA from Captain Lawrence. It's has a nice laid back flavor on a hot sunny day.

Buzzbait Buzzbait , I think it's about time you start an IPA Scout troop. :D Let me know where to submit my application for membership.

Apologies for neglecting to reply to this earlier, GT.

I'm glad you enjoyed the progress pictures. Most of it was carved while sitting out back, sipping a variety of brews, so it's only natural some photos ended up here. ;) I'm going to have to look up the legend of the Pencil-neck Kid. Thanks for that!

You are correct on the Nutella ingredients.. The porter was OK: perhaps a bit sweet for my taste, without a lot of complexity to offset it. Their standard Shallow Grave Porter is much better, in my opinion.

Tonight I'm enjoying the last of a growler of English IPA which was filled from a hand-pull beer engine at Freewheel Brewery, which specializes in British-style ales. It seemed only fitting to pair it with my relatively new-to-me Sheffield-stamped stockman.

Sorry Buzz, I'll post a scout with my next IPA. ;)

Thanks for the reply, Greg. Apologies not necessary; if you're at all like me, there are certain threads that you only get to once or twice a week! I'm not sure if you're serious about looking up the Pencil-neck Kid, but if you are, don't do it. He's completely a figment of my imagination, but inspired by your whittled cowboy! :D

Thanks also for the "Nutella Porter" review and the Shallow Grave recommendation. That English IPA in your photo has a very appealing color to me, even though IPA is not a favorite of mine. Cool Schrade Wostenholm stockman, too; I really like the bolster markings!

A birthday gift of Honey Wine from my brother. This is my first time trying it, and I super dig it. Cloyingly sweet balanced by a bittering spice. Thick and syrupy like a good lemoncello. GEC Bird and Trout to compliment.
