Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Supposed to really heat up this weekend and beyond - highs in the 90s, lows in the 70s.
Fortunately, we have the Great Lakes surrounding us to help make those temps more bearable. Porter from Cleveland, Ohio, lambsfoot from York, England, opener from Madrid, Spain: it takes a village! ;)

The bone on your saw-cut Northfield pairs wonderfully with the color of that beer.

By some terrible twist of fate, my fridge is empty of beer tonight. So I'm drinking "chick booze" while I grill pork chops with my Boker Camp knife.

Thank goodness you were totin' a scout with a cork screw! ;)

California table red and my Lloyd Trapper. We were out of white but the red made a nice pairing with a shrimp and sausage dish my better half cooked up. The Trapper fits in anywhere.

I'm of the opinion that red wine and that trapper both fit in anywhere.

A splendid multinational collection, GT! Glad to see your new A. Wright Lambsfoot again.

This beer is from a brewery that's across the Bay in Alameda. I hadn't tried any of their brews before, but I'm impressed by this one and plan to try out their other offerings.

I need to get ahold of some of that. Heard good things.

How do you like that Black Rocks Coconut Brown, Chris? My family spends a week or two in the U.P. each August, and I'm always on the lookout for good brews to try while we're there. ;)

Hey GT. It is great. There 51K IPA is ok, but doesn't do them justice. This brown is so smooth. Also its a good beer for people who usually don't like beer.
I vacation up in the UP every year as well and that's how I found out about them. The beer is definitely 100% worth trying. But if your with the family depending on the time of year Blackrocks can look like a frat house. Being in the same city as Northern and the brewery is in a old home right in the student district. It is still very friendly but can get a bit nutty with loud college kids. But they will will have lots of beer on tap that they don't can. I always enjoyed the Ore Docks Brewery in Marquette as well. I can't remember if they have food there.
I've been to beer fest in the UP twice now. Blackrocks has always had the best beers and been one of the most popular. Keeweenaw Brewery has a great black IPA that's sold everywhere up there that is excellent. Also one of my favorite breweries is in Grand Marais, (Lake Superior Brewery) north of Pictured Rocks they will have food for the family and good beer with a rustic saloon experience.
All hail Michigan craft beers! :)

Brew and blade look fantastic tmd_87 tmd_87 . I haven't tried anything from Mraz yet, but I think you've mentioned them several times. I should seek them out.

I went to a ren faire today, at Indian Ladder Farms. They had their own brand of beer, which made the 90 degree heat far more sufferable.

Now it's time to grill garlic & lemon chicken breasts with something new.it's called Freshchester, out of Westchester.

Ya, if you get the chance to grab something from them I highly recommend it. They make some of the best sour beers I have had.

I've yet to try a sour beer, is it hoppy? I'm not a fan of the IPA
It really depends on the sour. Some sour ales are hoppier. I like the fruity sours they are super easy drinking during the summer. I had a Citra sour, it was a sour IPA. I didn't enjoy it. Here is one of my favorites:

Thanks for the detailed info, Chris!!:cool::thumbsup: We always vacation on the east side of the UP (Les Cheneaux Islands area), so we're unlikely to actually get to Marquette in person, but you've given me some brand names to keep in mind when I try to stock the fridge. And last summer we took a day trip to Pictured Rocks, not realizing that the commercial cruises can fill up quite quickly. So we're hoping to get back there this summer, with boat reservations, and see Pictured Rocks from Lake Superior. If we do, maybe I can convince the family to check out the brewery in Grand Marais! ;)

Thanks, I've looked at several sours, I will grab a couple of different brews next time.

So refreshing after mowing the lawn in 95 degrees. I was hot and tired, and grabbed the first knife I saw with an opener, the AG Russell Premium Scout with 154CM blade and black micarta covers.
