Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

A.L. A.L. nice knife and great job on the sheath. I'm a fan of Weihenstephaner, too. I haven't seen or tried the Vitus though. Worth seeking out?

Thanks! As you can see from the top label, it's wheat bock beer. 7,7% alc volume. I take it that you have tried bocks and other stronger beers like that.
Definitely worth checking out. It's very much like wheat beer but with kick. Not as "quick to drown" but if you want something "wheaty" but heavier then it is the thing to go.

Sorry, bit bad explanation because I'm getting quite smashed at the moment!

ps. Can't go wrong with bavarian beers!

A.L. A.L. thanks for the info.

I love this picture. The weathered fence and aged Western fixed blade go perfectly with that can.

I'm enjoying a fantastic Farmhouse Ale made one state to the west:

Sounds rather heavenly. Nice choice of knives too! Though I don't recognize the one in wood...

I am laid up with a bit of a fever at the moment so it's lots of water for me presently. Hoping to kick it soon as I am supposed to go to the pub with some friends this evening where a traditional Irish band is going to be playing.

Thanks Dylan, the Joseph Haywood is one of my long-time favourites, and gifted to me by a dear friend from The Porch :) Here's a pic of it open

Hope you're feeling better later, and can get out for a pint with your pals

Thanks! It's the sailor knife, hence the drunken sailor sheath I made for it :D

LOL! Fantastic work! :D

Jack Black Jack Black a quite intriguing brew! Thanks for the description. The cutlery and grand piece of opener hardware match up nicely with it, I think.

Thanks my friend, the opener was an Xmas present from a blacksmith pal :) Wouldn't want to drop it on my foot!

Cool pic Greg

Thanks for the compliment on the picture !
This one comes in at 9.2 abv and it's deceptively smooth ! Next thing you know I'm being asked "are you drunk"

btb01 btb01 good to see you here. From the pics here and in the totin' thread it seems like you had a great evening.

Thanks, Greg! We had a good time.

Nice photo, rockman0 rockman0 ! Have you been out to Saddlebock's brewery/barn? It's a nice place to sit and have a couple beers. Seems like every time I'm back home in Northwest Arkansas there are more and more microbreweries, all with quirky little tasting rooms (which I usually prefer to drinking in a bar, anyways).

That's a good looking old Western fixed blade, too! Looks like it's seen some good use.

I haven't been to saddlebock brewery. I'm down in sw ar. I get up there a couple of times a year so ill have to take some time to stop in a couple of micros. Nice area up there and growing fast!

I just picked up the old western a couple of weeks back. It had no sheath but the nice thin blade will take a super sharp edge! I'll find a sheath and clean up the handle a little, sharpen and enjoy it.

Finally got to go back to my buddy's brewery for a couple of hours. I figured a cap lifter was appropriate, so I brought along my dyed Case "Trappist" Beer Trapper. Foreground is a Peanut Butter Stout, background is a Guava Sour. It was good to be back, even if it was only for a couple of beers.

Always good to see photos from your IPA Scouts adventures, Buzz.

Hippy stuff but it's good soooo...

Looking good. It's nice to see some alternative beverages here. :D Every time I buy that brand I wonder if @5K Qs gets a cut for naming rights. ;)

Went for a long hike with my dog yesterday. Picked up this IPA on the way home from Draught Horse Brewing. Saved it for today while I take care of things around the home.

What a great name for a brewery. :) Lovely stockman: is it an oily creek bone #66?

Sounds like a nice visit. I like the dye job on your Trappist Beer Trapper.

As for me, I just finished mowing the lawn and am kicking back in my favorite spot in the shade with my #66 and the last of this Grapefruit Sculpin I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Cheers folks, I hope you all had a good weekend.

WhittlinAway WhittlinAway : Yes it is an oily creek bone. It was tough waiting for this knife with it being towards the end of the production run. But it sure was worth it. You picked a gem out yourself. Either that version or the hemlock green would of been my 2nd choice. These are some great, well built knives.
On a side note, only 1 pint left in the growler;) settling down and getting ready to start another week.

I don't believe I've posted the pile side of my SBJ, but I really like the uneven dye job.

Beverage is my first try at cold brew. I had never tried it, but seeing it posted several times around here and the relentless heat we've had lately here in W TN made me want to test it out. I made a quart in a Nalgene bottle over the weekend but only ended up with about half that after some hilarious accidents in trying to filter out the grounds. The recipe I followed recommended mixing 2/3 concentrate with 1/3 of water or milk. I tried water initially and that tasted too watered down. I tried it straight and was too strong. I usually drink my coffee black, but today I added just a splash of milk to my cold brew as I was headed back to lunch from work. Better, but I need to keep experimenting.

I actually like my cold brew a little on the weaker side, especially if it's hot out. When I drink a large quantity too quickly it makes me feel kind of icky if it's too strong. I also think some of the natural sweetness and the 'chocolate' flavors come out when it's diluted more. Of course, how much to dilute the concentrate depends on personal preference and how strong it is to start with. I haven't really tried dairy with cold brew, but I would think less of it is needed than just using water.

What I do is fill the cup 1/3 of the way with concentrate, add ice up to the top, and whatever room is left gets water. If I'm in the mood for a little stronger I'll do 1/2 glass of concentrate.

Buzzbait Buzzbait fun picture and fantastic caption!

greentrout greentrout I really like the pile side of your SBJ, too.

I've been on a cold brew kick lately, too. Still relatively new to it, having made only maybe half a dozen batches, but I've mostly been drinking it black at a 1-to-1 ratio, sipping it while reading or doing a morning crossword.

Greg, how are you liking that #66?

I'm liking it quite a bit. You're seeing it so often here because I'm about half way through my 33 consecutive days of carrying it. Which reminds me... I should post an update to the 33 Days with a #66 thread. ;)

It's that time again! ;)

That time when your Abbeydale Jack has a few too many and turns into the 'Appydale Jack? ;) :D I almost didn't recognize it. :D

Thanks for sharing the link! I haven't done as good a job lately at keeping up with every thread on the Porch, and I had somehow missed your #66 thread entirely! Just caught up on it, and enjoyed reading it. I haven't picked up a #66 yet, but I continue to be tempted, particularly by that Antique Autumn -- I really like the jigging on it (if only because it's different than the standard jigging knives in the Tidioute line normally get).
