*BEWARE* Scary close Fake Military

About a month ago I had come across a fake Military that looked almost identical in the pics. The only tell at first glance was the G10 looked a lot smoother and shinier than brand new Spydercos. They come with paperwork and box and they sell for about $45 for one, and less for wholesale.

I had decided to post not about them since there has been quite a few threads of fakes that have gone wrong, but today I came across someone in the knife community that was taken by a scammer on ebay. I personally don't mind clones or if you knowingly buy them, but I do hate fakes mostly because most of the scammers who are taking advantage good knife people.

On to the fake.

Vid of guy who got the fake:

Saw his vid a few minutes ago...scary is right, I wouldn't have even noticed:(

Yea, I saw this a little bit ago as well. It does appear to be fake, but by far the 'best' fake I've ever seen. Only real way to be sure (recommended this to the uploader of the video) is to take it apart and check the blade tang for the date.

Dude thinks he has a Para 2, it is clearly a Military. I don't trust his opinion at all. I think it is a legit Military, with the wrong papers inside. Maybe some shenanigans with used or new and re-packaging going on, but the knife looks legit to me. He even admits he has never had a G10 Mili before, and says the G10 is wrong?! How would he know. I can't attest as I have not handled his knife, but all the important things look right to me. Seems like an ignorant knife buyer just wanting to cause Youtube drama to me. I still stay way away from the bay though.

May be fake, but would want someone with a more intelligent informed opinion.

He mentioned in the comments it was a slip of tongue. Secondly the pics I posted look exactly the same as his and I got those pics from a seller in China who sells fake.

He just posted an update with a more detailed look.

Well, based on that really strange sideways leaning blade, it's at the very least a defective knife if not a fake.

I didn't even know that there were places where you could purposefully buy a fake spyderco

I'd say it was a fake. They are getting darn good at it. I have also noticed a Chinese member wanting to buy high end production models here on the forum and you can probably guess why...

It seems that his strongest proof is that the G10 doesn't "feel" right. I've had quite a few G10 Spyderco models, and I can tell you that G10 changes significantly between runs. In fact, I grabbed two Para 2s from the Bento Box exclusive run, and those two had completely different G10 patterns.

So that would be the only real wy then?

Yea, I thought that too(at first), but he points out two things in the second video that make it look fake to me.

One: The lock bar is stone washed(I've never seen one like that)

Two: The blade taper is way off. Almost flat on one side and tapered on the other.

Damn...I own LOTS of spydies and I wouldbe hard pressed to tell these from the real deal. I'm guessing you'd find out pretty quick with the quality of the steel. THAT is where folks are getting the chorrizo.....our gov. is doing a bang-up job preventing these from being on the market...

Obviously you don't know of xiuxiu1313 then...he has an incredibly high end collection of customs, CRKs, Striders, and rare Emerson's, he uploads vids of new high end knives almost daily, with that many expensive knives going in and out, I'd definitely say he's a VERY experienced knife buyer, which is exactly why he was able to spot an extremely close fake almost instantly just because something didn't "feel right"...
