*BEWARE* Scary close Fake Military

Eh, he does buy high end stuff but it don't mean he has a good eye for details, he was easily taken by a fake sebenza he bought in the past, he didn't even realize it until people told him so in the comments. Just because someone spends a lot of money on something doesn't make them an expert on whatever they buy, not all the time at least.

I think he just has cash for high end toys. His videos are sometimes okay to good, but I've questioned his judgement plenty of times before with comments he makes about high end knives.
Whatever the case, he definitely doesn't have an eye for detail that's why I unsubbed from his channel.

Spyderco hasn't responded yet, I sent the message Monday afternoon. The Amazon seller was Bargain Outlet (I know that should have been a red flag right there) and they said they are sure it is real, but I could send it back and they will look it over and then determine if I get a refund etc. I'm gonna wait for the reply from Spyderco first as I don't want to be without both a Mili (fake or real) and my money. I've bought from Amazon before and never had an issue and figured since this vendor is linked with Amazon should be good too. I noticed someone on his vid commented they bought a Mili from a local shop and he had the same thing too, so either these are real, or some dealers are passing off fakes as well weather they now it or it.

Finally got a response back from Spyderco, and although I'm still not 100% sure I have a fake, for piece of mind I'm gonna return it and get one from a reputable dealer. No more Amazon and definitely no eBay knife buying for me anymore.

"Thank you for writing us. It is possible that there was a mix-up in the Edge-U-Cation materials but we aren’t aware of any at this time. It could have been a one-time mistake vs. an entire batch. The liners for the Military model are vibratory tumbled; given the process though it might be difficult to notice the difference. A better indicator would be the G-10 (is it smooth or textured – ours is textured) or the screws (most knock-offs are made in China and will have metric screws). Finally another indicator would be price. Was it pricing in line with a genuine Military Model value or was it a “screaming deal”?

If you question its authenticity I would suggest that you send a picture of it to our Customer Service department (customerservice@spyderco.com). You might also want to review our forums and the Spyderco area on BladeForums. There have been recent posts regarding the knock-off Military Models that have popped up recently.
Having said all of that, my biggest suggestion to be honest would be to return the knife to the seller for a refund if you question its authenticity. The problem with knock-offs is growing and we have been actively involved on multiple levels with efforts to stop the production of knock-offs but it’s a huge issue within the industry. The best way to avoid purchasing a knock-off is to try to purchase only through authorized Dealers or trusted parties (members of well-known forums with history).

I hope this information is helpful.

Just my update: got my refund for my "fake" Millie, ordered another one from a reputable seller and just arrived today. I can tell you this one is different and I definitely had a "good" fake. This one has the bead blasted liners, the G10 feels a little more grippy, and no Para 2 Edge-U-Cation paperwork in the Millie box. But other then that, I wouldn't have known. Big thanks to this forum and everyone on it for the info!

Get one from Ali and one from Walmart and if you are smart u properly know what to do next (if your local Walmart have the military and they have the same wonderful 'exchange' and return policy as the Walmart here in canada)

So... You are advocating both buying counterfeits AND theft by abuse of a store's return/exchange policy then? Good to know... :thumbdn::grumpy:

Jaxx is right.

We will not welcome members advocating or practicing these behaviors.

That's the way some people start their g-shock collection - fig that out when I saw some fake g-shock at my local sears

One more try, yellowknifenut, and I will have to decide whether to ban you or lock the thread. It would be best all around, wouldn't it, not to leave me with that choice?

I personally don't think it was a fake. That being said, yellowknifenut, don't promote poor morals here on Bladefourms. There's enough of it in society already without anyone promoting ideas. Thanks.

I collect G-shocks. I noticed a trend recently of fake G-shocks being sold second hand so the owners probably don't even know they have a fake. And off course through Ebay by sellers with 100% (!!!) feedback for (almost) the price of a real one.
So obviously most buyers don't know they are buying a fake. Even though they are pretty easy to spot if you do a very quick Google search.

Never thought a dealer could be selling fakes to but I guess they can if people buy a real one and return a fake..

In case, if I missed it. Was it ever mentioned who is e-bay seller, who sold the fake?

Damn...I own LOTS of spydies and I wouldbe hard pressed to tell these from the real deal. I'm guessing you'd find out pretty quick with the quality of the steel. THAT is where folks are getting the chorrizo.....our gov. is doing a bang-up job preventing these from being on the market...

How do you suggest a government prevents people from buying fakes from China?

- Stop people from buying anything overseas?
- Have customs check EVERY package?
- Declare war on China?
- Establish a department who investigates every possible fake being sold on Ebay and then fines Ebay?
- Close down Ebay?
