Beware selling to RTURBO

Look at things from his point of view. Four days after he paid for the item you had effectively not shipped it. I know you did ship and made a mistake, but four days later the canteen was in your possession still. Considering this I'd say rturbo was within his rights to request an immediate refund, even though many of us would have been more patient.
Why should he have to wait for you to physically see the package? How are the shipping charges his problem? You still had his money and his property so he wanted to back out of the deal. No reason to withhold a man's money at that point, however unreasonable they might be.

The PayPal app is convenient but it does have limitations. The thing is, if you're on a smartphone you can always log on to the full PayPal site through your web browser and take care of business immediately.

I wanted to see the package so that I could determine who was at fault. If I was at fault he would get a full refund. PO fault I would not feel the need to issue a full refund. Why would I refund him $12 of shipping money and eat that cost just because he didn't get satisfied quickly enough? Would you? You guys like to stir the pot. I've had a couple of PMs from people who have dealt with this guy and all agree he is not a fair, polite, or nice man. If you want to deal with him go right ahead. If you don't want to buy my stuff, I don't really care. This thread is to warn people, it's not a trial. I don't really care how any of you view it, to be honest. I know my intentions, I know the type of person I was dealing with, I handled it how I did.
Let me clarify this work/ computer thing because a lot of you aren't grasping it. I work in a big metal box called a hospital. The hospital restricts employees from looking at certain websites. I can't look at fantasy football, I can't look at eBay, I can't log into paypal, I can't look at amazon. That is why I can't use a computer. The big metal box also gives me shotty connectivity. Apps and texts seem to work fine. Phone calls and web browsing do not. I don't know why, I'm not a tech freak. It is what it is.
Do what you want to do. Enjoy your encounters with rturbo.

I was only answering the questions from your previous posts, not trying to stir the pot. And yes, I would have taken responsibility for the shipping costs even if the post office was at fault.
Thank you for the warning, you've painted a very clear picture of the situation.
Take care.

No problem, sorry if I seem frustrated. I certainly am. It is not meant towards you personally.

There's nothing wrong with buying and selling a bunch of knives just to try them out Al. Its not as if he can just walk into a store and handle a bunch of fiddle back models. Buying them is the only way to see what you like. Certainly doesn't make him a dealer...
.... +1 Go to the Busse forum and you can see many of the same blades making the rounds among the regulars there, my only comment would be ONLY 20 ;) ... !! Geeeze...

Four days to ship, oh the humanity!!!
It was not some life saving device, four days is just not a big deal. That generally means the buyer has his goods in hand within 7 days!!!
Oh thats horrible, it should have been hand delivered I say!!!

Not taking sides but maybe an extra email during this time would have helped the situation. I work 7am-5pm and then 7pm-11pm everyday and even longer Fridays but if I have something going on I'm always available especially to shoot a quick "I'll look into it tomorrow" email. I hope this gets resolved and both parties learn something out of this...
People should be a little patient. I work construction 6days a week-12 hr days a in the summer and who knows where each day and Im sry If someone is mad I don't respond in less than 12 hrs. I check before I leave and when I get back and thats fast enough in my book. If there is a problem I usually leave my number then cause emails back and forth are to slow.

Im only 42 and when I started construction lots of people didn't have computers and I only knew one person with a cell and now if you don't get a response within an hr people are mad.

This emphasizes my point tho, you make sure you leave all means of communication open. If something happens, it is OK but at least let people know with just a quick email or text "hey I'll ship it tomorrow couldn't make it". We don't live in a prehistoric area where you need smoke signs you know. If somebody cant ship or deal with something today just let the other party know, that's all what I am saying. I'm sure if tables were reversed and the other guy said " hold the item I'll pay you maybe in 2-4 days just keep it don't worry about other people offering you money for it I'll pay you" you would feel the same way as this other guy. No need of customer service or something like that just open communication is key. A lot of issues in this area of the forums could have been avoided by means of better communication and yes nobody is perfect including myself. Again, good luck and I hope somebody learns something so we don't see another story with the same people.

And since when are refunds standard procedure around here or anywhere else? Ever to tried to get a refund from craigslist? A yard sale? Buying a used car from an individual? I would never ask anyone on here for a refund unless the item was grossly misrepresented. If I make an impulse buy, I simply resell the item. I am a freaking nurse, I'm not a retail shop, I don't have a customer service department. When you buy something for an individual all sales are final as far as I'm concerned. I guess that will have to be a new disclaimer on my sale threads.

Actually there is a well respected and adhered to custom on this forum that no deal is finalised/done/completed unless both parties are happy. I can see how this may relate slightly stronger to trades between 2 members but as far as I know it is still expected with a selling transaction.

I don't disagree that the lack of patience is a bit silly, but if you tell someone you're shipping tomorrow and they don't hear from you until four days later saying you still have it, it's fair for them to ask for a refund.

Here's something interesting I found while looking for the original sale thread. Emoney bought a knife and only heard from the seller once but didn't get a tracking number yet. How many days had passed before he considered asking for a refund? 4...

Rturbo received a tracking number the very next day. It was in his spam folder, according to him. If you would have read this thread instead of trying to indict me by stalking my other posts, you would have known that. I did not receive a tracking number in my transaction and neither did the other 9 people and several of them left PMs with no response. Also, did i make the seller refund? No. Did I flame his feedback? No. Did I open a PayPal dispute? No. In fact, another 4 days went by before I heard from him and the knife just arrived yesterday. It took so long, I was able to have a sheath made and delivered before the knife arrived.

Get real.

There also is another well respected and adhered to custom. The golden rule. You work things out like gentlemen. You don't immediately send threatening messages telling the person they "suck" and damage their reputation through negative feedback. I treat people as well as they treat me.

I suggest that maybe you take a breather from this thread.

Once I knew there was an issue, which coincidentally occurred because I CONTACTED HIM, I was available for communication. I responded to his messages promptly. Sure, I slept and worked which delayed things, but the delay was never more than 18 hours with most of that being overnight hours. I told him over and over I would address it as soon as I could, which would be the next day due to working. Please see the screenshots of our conversation.

Really? It's my thread. Am I supposed to just read what people say about me without responding? This was a thread to warn people who deal with rturbo in the future. Instead it's turned into witch hunt to determine guilt. Why don't you just lock the thread? I didn't ask these people to comment.

Don't worry about the feedback damaging your reputation. This thread will have far more of an impact on that. I'll beware alright.*

I'm sorry. I just don't get it. I haven't used offensive language. I haven't threatened anyone. I have only responded to those who have misinterpreted the facts. I did not take me 4 days to ship the item. It took 2. I did communicate with rturbo politely even though he was using curse words. I told him I would address it as soon as I could. I don't see the issues, but if you all need a bad guy, that can be me. I guess I am supposed to sit and read peoples distortion of what happened even though I have laid it all out for them. God forbid I am assertive from time to time. Best of luck to you all. Feel free to add me to your ignore list at any time.

This whole thread is one big whine. Just read it. If you can't handle business transactions without opening a whiny thread, don't do anymore deals...Please.

I think everyone agrees that he was rude, that isn't the issue. I would probably not deal with him knowing that his expectations are so high, things happen and I wouldn't put myself in a situation to eat the cost of something if any issue popped up.

Also, people see that the moment that someone asks for a refund, when you still have the item, regardless of the circumstances behind the USPS or you being responsible, you issue a refund. You chose USPS as your carrier that is now your responsibility, that is a separate transaction between you and them and you get your refund from them if required. His expectation was that the item would go out at a certain and be received at a certain time (pending any issues along the way), he shouldn't have to wait for an item and then be charged for shipping for an item that was never received.

In this situation life got in the way and delayed your response/reaction. Most people would have been understanding, he wasn't, you learn the lesson for the future as well and everyone moves on.

Sending the chap a message telling him he should have more class, is behaving like a child etc is hardly working things out like gentlemen. And that's just what you chose to show the forum to support your case.

What did you think was going to happen with the feedback he left after an exchange like that? That it would be gushing about your polite tone and asking you to be a god parent to his children.
