Thanks for your input Kevin and you're right that those in this thread should have thought more about what it would mean to put "bladeforums.com" on the blade. I think everyone here needs to step back and realize that what having the name on the blade means (free advertising vs. intellectual property) doesn't matter because we don't control the name, so our "democratic" decision has no bearing on this.

Still though Kevin I would hope you would support a unique one-off knife even without the BF logo or name, but coordinated and sold through the forums. The ideal solution I think here would be to use the BF name but discretely (not plastered over the blade, but written in small lettering on the spine) and give a small percentage of the cost to support the forums. I'm not sure how that would be worked out but I think everyone here would support that kind of thing. Make a great one off blade and give back to the community at the same time.

I respect that people's IP is their own and they can do whatever they want with it. But I have to say that I am put off by the 'don't use the name without permission and payment' thing. I support the site with my membership and put up with the 'no deal spotting' thing because this is a great place to 'hang out' with other knife guys and learn more about what Kershaw is doing. I liked the idea of having 'BF' somewhere on the blade because for me that would be part of the community aspect of the blade.

Now I'd rather have KM for Kershaw Mafia or something like that on the blade (maybe even something as discrete as part of the knife name, 1760KM) or KG for Kershaw Guy since it looks like hes fronting the money and taking the risk.

And when whomever is in control absconds with the money, all $60,000 of it who are you going to screaming to first?

Spark that's who.

I say lets wait and see what the "powers that be(thomas, spark, and dave)" can work out and go from there.

While I don't agree with your opinion/personal preference, I do fear that S30v is becoming so commonplace that a lot of serious knife people are not really viewing S30v as a premium steel now with this massive influx is new 'super' steels.

I happen to really like S30v and I think it's a great steel (along with 154CM) for the 75-125 price range.

I like 154CM too, I'd take it over S30V.

I am sure whatever is decided on will be awesome and I will take one whatever it turns out to be.

This is what I would like to see though...
Blue G10 with 154cm on the lower end
or Titanium frame lock with elmax on the higher end

I think someone really should have contacted me on this.

BladeForums.com is my property, and no offense, but I'm not going to allow third parties to brand merchandise with the site name and profit from it, especially without my input on the process. I am not against such a thing, but BladeForums.com will control it.

Since there is a 600 piece requirement, any knife would not be bleeding edge esoteric. S30V and Green / Tan / Digicam / Translucent G10 models would have the widest appeal - personally I'd love to see a framelock, but that's me.

I will contact Thomas regarding costs on this. If they are doable, we'll start taking preorders. If they aren't, we won't. End goal is a price at under $100, ideally at or around $75.

I never planned on having Blade forum logo on the knife and I am out if that's the case, I have wanted to do a special run of skylines for sometime and had done a giveaway to see what people thought the right combo would be, so Kevin if you are going to take over on this I will bow out and do my own and wish you well. Sounds like you are ready to run with it.

Also,There was never a need to contact you, we were just planning and talking about what we would like, until you took control.

I highly doubt redesigning (frame lock) the Skyline is an option Kershaw will go for.

Hey Spark,

I think this thread has kind of gone all over the place. As Dave had mentioned keeping this not specific to bladeforums, I think it would be cool to have the Skyline still go that way.

As for a bladeforums knife though, I think we could come up with a different knife (*cough* orange G10 Leek *cough*) and have that go through you. If we could do something like this, it would be the cool for everyone and we'd get 2 new special runs out of it.

Due to the recent posts I've changed my mind and agree with the above. If they are gonna be marked with a Bladeforum logo then I'm out. Although I would be interested in a couple of special run Skylines if they are without the "BF" logo or markings.

Personally, I'm onboard more with a non-branded knife. It has nothing to do with the forum, just I would prefer to not have anything written on the blade. I just wanted a unique model number and that's it.

Oh really? I must have imagined this then.

ForumManufacturer's Forums > Kershaw Knives / Zero Tolerance > BF Special Edition Skyline
Hm, BF Special Edition, right in the title.
I stole this idea directly from this thread.
what do you guys think about a bladeforum custom skyline?
we have them make it with the model 1760BF for blade forum...they sell them to us without any box/packaging to save some time and $$ and we get them made up with some jimping and maybe a different steel.
So the idea is that it would take probably 500 to 600 commits. I thought I remembered a # from a TNP video, but he didn't mention it in the one I was looking at. I don't think you can vote in multiple polls. So if you want more than one, please leave a comment with how many you would buy.

This thread can eventually evolve into what steel, color, etc. For starters, I am wondering what the real interest is in something like this.
The first post in this thread.

I'd definitely be interested in a bf exclusive skyline. I like the idea of a composite, but even just an upgraded steel would be cool. Something other than black or brown for the scales, wouldn't mind seeing some ghost jade or blue.
Still the first page

Well if it is going to be the BF special edition it has to have blue G10, because the forums color is blue (seems pretty simple to me)
and a stonewashed 154cm or elmax would be ideal. As long as it was under say $70, I would buy at least one. Maybe a new pocket clip (deep carry/ low- rider) would be my preference. That would be beat, we need to make this happen!
My mediocre concept art done in MS Paint.

Bright blue G10 (think M390 Paramilitary 2) and S110V, baby!
What's this? BladeForums.com on the blade? With BladeForums Blue Handles?

The only real obsticle that I see, is that if it is a "Blade Forum" knife, it's appeal is going to be minimal outside of BF, so we would need to get all 600 from here. It's not like we could try to find 30 dealers to each get 20 to re-sale. Maybe if we get close, expand to the rest of BF (not just the Kershaw section) and see if some other people would like it as a BF-knife that happens to be a Kershaw.
Oh, what's this -
That would depend completely on several factors, price point being important, but mainly I think if the logo is attractive and not something that a non member thought was ugly then they would be sellable outside of Bladeforums. I think it is possible that all would sell to members, but I would certainly not want to have to count on that, but I have wanted to do a special skyline for a while and Thomas knows about that. I had originally thought about S30V and Maybe Tan G10 or perhaps Digicam. I am open on this idea, I would still need you guys to do most of the work in gathering ideas and that stuff, then I can check on pricing when we have some options in place.
Really. REALLY.
I mean we could make the BF edition simply be the model number. 1760BF, we wouldn't have to go elaborate.

Colorwise, pretty sure that blue has been the one I have heard from most often on here. Blue for blade forums.
We're only up to page 8 so far, and it sure looks like everyone is talking about how this would be a BladeForums knife with BladeForums colors for BladeForums members, so yes, there was a need to contact me, Dave. Even if there wasn't a need, it would have been polite to contact me prior to doing a run of 600 knives to sell ostensibly as a BladeForums special edition.

You know what? I don't enjoy being made to look like an asshole because I raised a reasonable objection to something I felt was wrong.

If this thread had been titled "Kershaw Mafia Special Edition Skyline" I wouldn't have even clicked on it. If I hadn't read the repeated posts talking about a BladeForums.com Special Edition Skyline, I wouldn't have really wrinkled my nose. But to deny that this hasn't been billed as a BladeForums knife without even asking me if it'd be ok? That's just dishonest.

What get's me pretty irked is the number of you who are acting like I'm out of line.

I don't necessarily think you are acting out of line but I have been following this thread since it got started. I think what originally started as a bladeforums.com special edition knife quickly turned into special edition skyline designed by bladeforums.com members.

The original MSpaint with the logo on it was met with trepidation and even kershawguy mentioned in your quote that the logo was not something he was really interested in doing so it would appeal to more than just members.

I personally would love to see everyone be happy and two special edition knives come out of this thread!

Yes Really !!! We were discussing, no knives were ordered, you came in like a ruler and took control, do you really think we would put a bladeforum logo on something without asking, come on get serious. I do a lot of business on Bladeforums and I like it here , but right now I am very angry about the way you handled the take over, but hey it is your domain, have fun with it, I will start a new thread. You make whatever knife you want. As far as I am concerned you were out of line.
Dave

We don't allow people to mark things with "BladeForums.com" without permission just like Kershaw doesn't let people mark random knives with Kershaw. There's a number of reasons for that. And it's foolish to think that anyone is going to order 600 pieces of a knife that and NOT make some money off it. KershawGuy straight up mentioned the secondary market in his posts.

Please don't mistake my posts for being combative, but like I said, I really wish someone had contacted me about this earlier on. If you want to put BladeForums.com on a project, it needs to be done with my approval, and it needs to support the forums.

^^This. It's a "no-brainer."^^

It is not a no brainer. We were talking , that is all we were doing, it was brainstorming, no orders were made, and none will be.

I'm just talking about how some of you guys are addressing our leader (Not you, KG).

Not the (now) imaginary knife.
