Good point, but s30v will be the best value for money, and still provide a great platform to base a BF special edition skyline on.

Not necessarily. We'll see when Dave gets us the numbers. If ZDP ends up being only ~$10 above S30V, I'd imagine more people would spring for ZDP.

I'm hoping for Elmax. I'll be disappointed if S30V is selected. If that happens I'll just go with the standard skyline since I feel the steel is superior to S30V. It's just my opinion and personal preference.

While I don't agree with your opinion/personal preference, I do fear that S30v is becoming so commonplace that a lot of serious knife people are not really viewing S30v as a premium steel now with this massive influx is new 'super' steels.

I happen to really like S30v and I think it's a great steel (along with 154CM) for the 75-125 price range.

In for at least one - Love the idea of a ZDP-189 Skyline, but anything unique from our friends at Kershaw would be a worthwhile purchase.

Honestly, I have many knives in S30V, and only one in ZDP-189 and one in M390. What I like about this whole thing is that we have the chance to spring for high-end steels found mainly on blades well above $100. In my opinion, this is one of the best chances to get one of those steels for under or near $100. I just think it's a good opportunity for us to take full advantage of.

How so? If we end up using a more expensive steel, the knife is going to be more expensive. Taking Spyderco examples, going from S30V to M390 pretty much doubled the price.

Unfortunately my computer crashed. I was almost done with the carbon fiber chop job and I don't particularly feel like doing it again because I also lost my file that had the sections split in layers. I also never had a chance to do the digi-camo. Perhaps someone else can jump in here and chop one together.

Well heck then, the Skyline is $35, so we should have a $70 Skyline in M390. :D ;)

Honestly, I was really talking more about ZDP-189, than M390. Again, my main basis, which is limited, is S110V Shallot. The original Shallot in 14C28N runs for $50, the S110V Shallot ran for ~$75. S110V is arguably more high-end than ZDP-189 and M390. That was a few years ago, though, and I don't assume that steel prices are static. To do it again, it would be closer to $100.

S30V (even 14C28N would be okay) and distinctive G10 (Royal Blue or whatever) scales plus some laser engraving identifying it as a 2012 BF Kershaw Skyline would suit me fine. I'd be in no matter what is chosen, as long as its got the 2012 BF Kershaw Skyline logo on it.

I think someone really should have contacted me on this.

BladeForums.com is my property, and no offense, but I'm not going to allow third parties to brand merchandise with the site name and profit from it, especially without my input on the process. I am not against such a thing, but BladeForums.com will control it.

Since there is a 600 piece requirement, any knife would not be bleeding edge esoteric. S30V and Green / Tan / Digicam / Translucent G10 models would have the widest appeal - personally I'd love to see a framelock, but that's me.

I will contact Thomas regarding costs on this. If they are doable, we'll start taking preorders. If they aren't, we won't. End goal is a price at under $100, ideally at or around $75.

Actually, I think it was decided to not put the site name on it so it would appeal to a wider audience. I think at most people were looking for maybe BF in the model name.

Maybe we'll get super lucky and have two special edition Skylines coming out soon as Kershawguy is already looking into his.

I thought the cool thing about this project is the democratic nature, where we all get a vote on what we wanted it to be.

Apparently anyone can make an order of 600, so to each there own.

I also thought it was kind of a tribute to blade forums not trying to make money from the name.

This. I don't think anyone is trying to make money off BFC. If anything, having the Bladeforum's logo on the blade is free advertising for Spark.

Nice!

A steel frame-lock skyline would be awesome.

No, it isn't, and no, that's not how "advertising" works much less "tributes"

We don't allow people to mark things with "BladeForums.com" without permission just like Kershaw doesn't let people mark random knives with Kershaw. There's a number of reasons for that. And it's foolish to think that anyone is going to order 600 pieces of a knife that and NOT make some money off it. KershawGuy straight up mentioned the secondary market in his posts.

Please don't mistake my posts for being combative, but like I said, I really wish someone had contacted me about this earlier on. If you want to put BladeForums.com on a project, it needs to be done with my approval, and it needs to support the forums.
